The King's Head

What a grey, damp and murky day we woke up to.  Overnight half the Golden Delicious apples have fallen from the tree.  I don't even feel inclined to go and gather them in this dampness.

I painted the sculpture and grandly christened it the King's Head as there is a passing resemblance to Prince Charles.  I then had the dilemma of finding it a home.

I couldn't quite bring myself to put him in the dustbin so he was headed to the attic to gather dust.  But then I saw a dark corner on the shelf unit and I've tucked him away, almost out of sight.  He can stay there for the time being.

  1. I like the coppery glaze you have put on King Charles. Was he fired in a kiln? I hope you have a second bash at a bust before too long.

    1. I use air-dry clay, it doesn't need firing.

  2. I also like the glaze and the sculpture lines that became more distinguished through the process. King Charles it is. Well done.

    1. He fits quite nicely. Something else for me to dust though.

  6. I once did a plaster head of Lady M which I didn't like at all. I hit it with a hammer and it shattered, leaving just one large lump of her nose and one eye which suddenly looked exactly like her. I mounted the 'fragment' on a little plinth, and still have it somewhere (I think).

  7. Finding a home for something that doesn't turn out exactly as hoped is always a problem. Love the bronze colour and I think Charles will be quite happy in his corner!

    1. He looks okay as long as you don't look too closely. He can wear a paper crown at Xmas.

  8. Just read your reply to the comment above - a paper crown would be rather funny! He does look rather like Charles.

    1. It was always my intention from the outset to do a bust of Charles - of course.

  9. Keep him on that shelf and before long he will become one of the family.
