Just Rick

We left Rick at home yesterday when we went to market; while we were out I think he was plotting his revenge.  When Paul took him out of the courtyard to go and work in the potager Rick caught sight of the tractors working in the fields on the opposite side of the valley and he was off in a flash before Paul could grab hold of him.  I missed all the fun but apparently Paul gave chase down the hill and then had to run rings around the farmer’s tractor trying to catch our naughty dog.  Fortunately the farmer found the whole episode very amusing.  While Rick is very good at obeying commands in the classroom, in the real world it’s a very different story.

We took Rick for a long walk in the afternoon.  The tractors were still going back and forth along the back roads taking the silage to the big farm.  As one large tractor and trailer came towards us I suggested we move further back into the woods.  Paul said, with great authority, “It’s okay, we can stay on the grass verge, I’ve got complete control of him.”  I waved to the farmer as he drove by on his tractor and then looked round to see Rick and Paul rolling around in the dust on the ground.

Complete control?  I don’t think so.

  2. If Rick had been a schoolboy, he would have had many lines to write... "I must be a good boy. I must be a good boy. I must be a good boy. I must be a good boy. I must be a good boy. I must be a good boy. I must be a good boy. I must be a good boy..." It reminds me of my own adolescence.

  5. As it appears customary for dogs to roam freely around the area you live I wonder that you didn't just leave Rick to run when he went across to the tractor. A few circuits and a game of cat and mouse with the tractor would appear to me to be normal behaviour for French dogs. No wonder the tractor driver found it amusing; he was probably thinking "Brits!" whilst raising his eyes to the sky.

    1. I laughed but I don't think Paul saw the funny side.
