Robin's Nest

Madame Caroline roses on the barn wall

One of the pleasures of summer is surely eating outside.  As soon as the temperature rises and the sun shines we like to take long leisurely lunches on the terrace and today was no exception.

We had a simple lunch - minestrone soup, bread, cheese, olives and a glass of wine. While we were eating I noticed a robin with a grub in her beak perched on the empty bottle of an old wine rack set into the terrace wall.  She disappeared behind the rack before reappearing a few minutes later.  It would appear that there is a nest with young in the recess of the wall. This is the first time that we have noticed robins nesting in the garden. I hope we don’t disturb them with our lunchtime sessions.

the nest is set back behind the wine rack on the right hand side

    1. She seemed very bold and didn't seem fazed by us sitting so close to her nest.

  2. Perhaps it would be kindest to eat indoors until the baby robins have hatched and fledged.

    1. Looking at the weather forecast for the coming week I don't think we will be eating outside.

    2. It's well out of Rick's reach, she's built her nest in a very safe spot.

    2. Yes, that is the trouble with wisteria isn't it. In my last house I had wisteria on a pergola but it didn't really lend itself to a sun umbrella whereas yours is the ideal shape for one.

  6. Yesterday evening we had to move from our open terrace to our covered terrace, as the sun was too hot.

  7. I hope that you were not having to get your wine from that rack. It looks like Decorative Purposes Only.
