Bloody Mary

With the temperature nudging 40 degrees Celsius we scuttled into the cool, shuttered house after lunch on the terrace.  Rick doesn’t seem to understand that he has to stay inside out of the heat this afternoon.

Earlier in the morning we picked a whole load of tomatoes from the potager so Paul decided to make a batch of soup.  He put a mix of different tomatoes, basil, garlic, onions, chillies, oregano and thyme into a pan and roasted for thirty minutes.

After cooling he put it through a food mill and voila - delicious tomato soup.

“That would make a nice Bloody Mary,” I commented after tasting.

My wish is Paul’s command.

  1. I need to get one of those food mills. Do they take away all the seeds / skins? -Jenn

    1. It's a really useful piece of kit. Ours has three different size sieve plates and the finest gets rid of all the small seeds and skins.

  2. I'm not a tomato soup fan, but a Bloody Mary would be quite nice.

    1. I think you would like this soup too, it's nothing like the canned stuff. Delicious hot or chilled.

  5. Poor old Paul - slaving away while you put your feet up and sip Bloody Marys. Do you make him wear a pinafore too?

  6. That would make a delicious addition to any picnic. Thinks - must add vodka to my shopping list.

  9. Mine are all being bottled; other than a few for lunch. With this heat I may sun-dry a few as well.

    1. Our medium sized tomatoes for sun drying aren't ripe yet! A shame because this weather would dry them in seconds.

  11. Extra wilting stick of celery and you must get near your Five-a-Day. Best idea for a tom glut yet.

    1. Don't need the celery for my five-a-day, I think I'm into double figures at this time of year!
