Bloody Mary
With the temperature nudging 40 degrees Celsius we scuttled into the cool, shuttered house after lunch on the terrace. Rick doesn’t seem to understand that he has to stay inside out of the heat this afternoon.
Earlier in the morning we picked a whole load of tomatoes from the potager so Paul decided to make a batch of soup. He put a mix of different tomatoes, basil, garlic, onions, chillies, oregano and thyme into a pan and roasted for thirty minutes.
After cooling he put it through a food mill and voila - delicious tomato soup.
“That would make a nice Bloody Mary,” I commented after tasting.
My wish is Paul’s command.

I need to get one of those food mills. Do they take away all the seeds / skins? -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt's a really useful piece of kit. Ours has three different size sieve plates and the finest gets rid of all the small seeds and skins.
DeleteI'm not a tomato soup fan, but a Bloody Mary would be quite nice.
ReplyDeleteI think you would like this soup too, it's nothing like the canned stuff. Delicious hot or chilled.
DeleteI would like a Bloody Mary here too.
ReplyDeleteI felt a bit wicked drinking it in the middle of the afternoon!
DeleteMmm...Bloody Mary...that sounds great!
ReplyDeleteBloody Marys all round!
DeletePoor old Paul - slaving away while you put your feet up and sip Bloody Marys. Do you make him wear a pinafore too?
ReplyDeleteChef's apron.
DeleteThat would make a delicious addition to any picnic. Thinks - must add vodka to my shopping list.
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be great for a picnic Pat.
DeleteI so love a good Bloody Mary on a relaxing Sunday afternoon.....Your "Blog Headline" today also reminded me of this yummy, refreshing "Bloody Mary Salad" ...I make this a lot on hot summer days...It's a great way to use your garden fresh tomatoes and it's so tasty, cool, refreshing on a warm summer day....And, it's super easy to throw together...Here's the link where I found the recipe: https://www.framedcooks.com/2012/08/bloody-mary-salad.html......Hope you'll give it a try! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious, thanks for the link.
DeleteIf you have lots of tomatoes try gazpacho-deeeelicious!!
ReplyDeleteLove gazpacho on a hot day.
DeleteMine are all being bottled; other than a few for lunch. With this heat I may sun-dry a few as well.
ReplyDeleteOur medium sized tomatoes for sun drying aren't ripe yet! A shame because this weather would dry them in seconds.
DeleteAm I the only one here that doesn't like bloody Mary but, I do like soup and this one that Paul made with fresh ingredients sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
Haha, the soup is just as good.
DeleteExtra wilting stick of celery and you must get near your Five-a-Day. Best idea for a tom glut yet.
ReplyDeleteDon't need the celery for my five-a-day, I think I'm into double figures at this time of year!
DeleteReminds me of the bloody Mary soup I had in that restaurant, that was yummy :P
ReplyDeleteYou can make it with tequila too.
