Sunday

Rick doing a spot of sun bathing
Warm and sunny here today but with a strong wind blowing, probably the edge of Hurricane Ophelia out in the Atlantic that is heading for the UK.  There is so much ‘fluff’ blowing off the pampas grass it’s like being in the midst of a snow blizzard.

We stayed outside in the bright sunshine for coffee and cake, sitting in front of the barn to shelter us from the wind.  Paul grabbed his gardening baseball cap from the barn to protect his head from the sun.  We sipped our coffee and then I glanced at Paul, shrieked and then dissolved into giggles.  The most enormous snail was fixed to the side of Paul’s hat.  It just looked totally ridiculous.

More hunters about today, standing at the edge of the woods, waiting for some poor animal to come running out from the undergrowth.  Philippe told Paul that a sanglier (wild boar) had been spotted in the woods.  He was out with his dogs and his gun although he isn’t a member of the chasse.  Eventually they drove off so hopefully that was one that got away.

  1. There was a big police presence here this morning, including two on quad-bikes, looking for illegal hare coursing villains up from Essex. Amazing what happens in these sleepy backwaters of South Norfolk. Yesterday it was gunfire from the local shoots all around me that woke me.

  5. Ooo! Rick has got himself a girlfriend! Did he have to use a doggie dating site? I hope that Diane and Rick will be very happy together. They'll be like the animated stars of "The Lady and The Tramp".

  7. After 11 yrs, The Dog & I saw our first live, trotting sanglier this morning.
I hope we don't see it again or it's family. Ted was quite interested, but on the lead, so we made tracks in the opposite direction.

    1. I've only seen a couple from a distance in all the years we have lived here. I wouldn't want to come face to face with one.
