Rick doing a spot of sun bathing |
Warm and sunny here today but with a strong wind blowing, probably the edge
of Hurricane Ophelia out in the Atlantic that is heading for the UK.
There is so much ‘fluff’ blowing off the
pampas grass it’s like being in the midst of a snow blizzard.
We stayed outside in the bright sunshine for coffee and cake, sitting in
front of the barn to shelter us from the wind.
Paul grabbed his gardening baseball cap from the barn to protect his
head from the sun.
We sipped our coffee
and then I glanced at Paul, shrieked and then dissolved into giggles.
The most enormous snail was fixed to the side
of Paul’s hat.
It just looked totally
ridiculous.

hunter lurking by the woods on the far side of the valley |
More hunters about today, standing at the edge of the woods, waiting for
some poor animal to come running out from the undergrowth.
Philippe told Paul that a sanglier (wild
boar) had been spotted in the woods.
He
was out with his dogs and his gun although he isn’t a member of the
chasse.
Eventually they drove off so
hopefully that was one that got away.

Diane and Rick having a chat about the chasse |
There was a big police presence here this morning, including two on quad-bikes, looking for illegal hare coursing villains up from Essex. Amazing what happens in these sleepy backwaters of South Norfolk. Yesterday it was gunfire from the local shoots all around me that woke me.
ReplyDeleteVillains from Essex, they're the worst.
DeleteHope the hurricane dies off before it reaches land...
ReplyDeleteLots of wind and rain but hopefully not too much damage.
DeleteOh that is sweet, Rick with a girl friend.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
He has a few - Diane, Joy, Sybelle and Fifi.
DeleteThe wind is set to sweep up the western side of the country here - hope it doesn't get over our side.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Ireland is going to get the worst of it.
DeleteOoo! Rick has got himself a girlfriend! Did he have to use a doggie dating site? I hope that Diane and Rick will be very happy together. They'll be like the animated stars of "The Lady and The Tramp".
ReplyDeleteDiane is besotted with him but he prefers Joy who is a redhead.
DeleteBok had his mate Marley around for some play time yesterday. A perfect day for Dog Club meetings.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite noisy here yesterday with howling hounds and barking dogs.
DeleteAfter 11 yrs, The Dog & I saw our first live, trotting sanglier this morning.
ReplyDeleteI hope we don't see it again or it's family. Ted was quite interested, but on the lead, so we made tracks in the opposite direction.
I've only seen a couple from a distance in all the years we have lived here. I wouldn't want to come face to face with one.
DeleteIt would be exactly like coming face to face with Harvey Weinstein.
DeleteDidn't realise that Rick was such a Lothario !
