In three weeks’ time we will be shutting up the house for winter and heading
back to England. It seems like only
yesterday we were opening up for summer.
I’m still enjoying the autumn sunshine and spending as much time as possible
outside in the garden but Paul has got itchy feet. He always gets restless as soon as he has
booked the tickets home. His big concern
this year is calculating how much wine he’s going to be able to fit in the car
as the dog crate will take up most of the back seat. I’ve said that we can
leave all our clothes behind and buy new stuff in the UK, the wine supply is
more important. Rick will have a lot of
gear to fit in too - his bed, favourite blanket, harness, dog food, grooming
kit, tennis balls, doggy treats, collapsible water bowl. It’s like travelling
with a young child.
The months have passed so quickly this year.
Our trip to Spain, a brief return visit to Wiltshire, adopting Rick,
being reunited with our girls here in September, time has whizzed by. We are hoping Sarah will fly back to England
for the Christmas holidays, Kat will get some leave and we will all squeeze into our flat and have a
very merry time. But for now it’s still
October and I’m going to make the most of my house in the sun.
Apart from our dog inside the car, on 3/4 of the backseat, all his accoutrements and my dog walking clothing take up all of the roof box.
ReplyDeleteWe might have to think about a roof box.
DeleteIn the days when I over-wintered in Brighton, I would fill the back of the car with 5 litre 'cubis' bought in Calais. It wasn't exactly Petrus, but at the price I paid it was good enough!
ReplyDeleteMost of our winter supply will be in boxes. We can usually eke it out for the whole winter.
DeleteTime flies.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it does Yael.
DeleteIt seems very early to be coming back.
ReplyDeleteNot really, it can get very cold here in November and we've got things to sort out back home.
DeleteIt is still summer here so I suppose that is why it seems early.
DeleteTime goes so fast but the minute you are looking forward to something then it seems it suddenly stops!
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
Perhaps you should attach a camping trailer to the car - either for the wine or for Rick and his stuff.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I don't think Rick would sit nicely in the trailer, even with flying goggles and hat.
DeleteI like the picture in this post. It's very moody. Do you have roof racks on your vehicle? They're awfully handy. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteWe might have to get a roof box, never needed one before we got Rick!
