Pesto and Bears

The days are quite warm and sunny but the night temperatures are getting very low.  Today I decided to harvest a pile of basil before the cold nights turn their leaves black.  Into my whizzer with some parsley, sun dried tomatoes, garlic and olive oil to make a batch of pesto.  I didn’t have any pine nuts so I added a handful of peanuts, and I substituted parmesan cheese with some of Sarah’s vegan nutritional yeast that needs using up.

I shall use some of the pesto in the chickpea and tofu salad for lunch and the rest will go into the freezer.

We met the bear in the woods again yesterday.  Turns out he’s an extremely scruffy Newfoundland dog that has been roaming free.  He probably belongs to the bogans who live in the middle of the woods.

  1. Good you don't have a real bear there.

  2. Oh The Bogans! I knew them very well. I went up to Oxford with Charles Bogan and my sister Florrie used to go riding with Tilly Bogan in The New Forest.

    1. According to Wikipaedia "a bogan is Australian and New Zealand slang for a person whose speech, clothing, attitude and behaviour are considered unrefined or unsophisticated." There is a particular run-down dwelling in the woods that we tend to stay away from, the people seem to be a bit strange.

    2. Is it a word in regular use in your household? I have never heard it before.

    3. I think we picked it up from Sarah, she uses it a lot in Oz. I like the sound of it.

  5. So last post was an early 'fish' joke. I've been singing the Teddy Bear's Picnic for the last few days.

  6. We have bogans here too. We call them "trailer trash" as they usually live in a decrepit trailer park.

    1. Ha-ha, you could be right. He certainly looked more like a bear than a dog.

    2. There is a real tear jerking (for me) advert on the TV where the baby will only interact with the family dog when it wears a purchased lion's mane that looks like the kid's toy.

    1. It was a fabulous three weeks with them, it seemed very flat and quiet here after they left but we are gradually getting back into our routine. Sarah is back in Oz looking for a new flat in Sydney, she is hoping to get back to the UK for Christmas so that will be fab. Thanks for asking Helsie x
