Friday

In the morning I downed tools and watched Princess Eugene’s wedding.  Lovely dress but the whole affair was a bit too Hollywood for me.  To ease my guilt of watching television in the morning I wrapped apples, gathered from our trees, in paper and put them in boxes for storage while I watched.  I don’t know if they are keepers or not but time will tell.  The apples I mean.

While I was sorting apples Paul set off to Market Rasen (about twenty minutes from here) to do some food shopping and pick up a new toilet seat.  Twenty minutes later he was back – he had forgotten his wallet.  Oops!  He eventually got home an hour or so later with enough food to last us the whole winter and a lovely new toilet seat.  The grapes were the strangest fruit I have ever tasted.

Kat arrived at lunchtime to spend the weekend with us.  Paul made the most of her presence and got her to help him hang some heavy mirrors and pictures.  I just helped by saying “left a bit, right a bit, no I don’t like that, can we try the other one?”

The decor in my new sitting room is evolving gradually.  It’s difficult to envisage with the flowery wallpaper and existing curtains.  My Art Deco style mirror didn’t look right hanging above the traditional style fireplace.  I tried my big Bridge of Sighs picture. Yes, that works for me.  Not everyone’s choice of picture but it has a special significance for Paul and me (romantic times in Venice!).  Now I just have to think about replacing the curtains.  I’m having fun.

  2. Why weren't you out exploring your new area with Paul?

  3. How nice that Kat has come to spend the weekend. What does she think of your new gaffe? By the way - I don't wish to be alarmist - but forgetting one's wallet or keys is often the first sign of dementia. You had best keep a close eye on Paul from now on. Good job you trained as a nurse.

    1. She likes it here, I think she has forgiven us for not buying a gothic mansion.

    1. It was fun to watch everyone holding tightly on to their posh hats on such a windy day. Some went bowling along the street.

    2. I know what you mean about wallpaper - hopefully my sitting room is being redecorated in a fortnight and then my pictures will look much better - I have many original watercolours and I also have a wonderful oil of Venice - will put it on my blog one day. Each little step makes it feel more like home doesn't it.

  8. Meanwhile out here, it was the St Caprais Chestnut fair yesterday. I usually go, but was too busy. I heard that Robbie Williams was chewing gum all through the wedding; he should be shot.

  10. Before reading on, I thought your pic showed a container of jelly beans! So much plastic adorns your f&v in the UK! You've really set a cracking pace on settling in. At this rate it'll be all done & dusted by Xmas!

  11. I've never seen those grapes over here, a little weird I think. I watched a little bit of the royal wedding. Liked the back of the dress more than the front! Beautiful tiara! I thought it was quite funny watching all the hats getting blown up the street. It made me sad when I read that minutes after the ceremony some of the gift bags that the 1200 invited onto the grounds received were already on ebay!

  12. You are doing really well at making it your home. I watched the highlights of the wedding in the evening. I thought her dress was very elegant and she looked beautiful. I thought all the outfits were lovely. The photographs in the paper today are beautiful too.
