Neighbours

I’ve been working in the garden today, pulling out trails of ivy and trying to create some sort of order.  It feels very autumnal outside today; the leaves are falling and Paul has been clearing gutters.  Jenny, our neighbour, has just been round to invite me to a ladies’ chat group on Saturday.  This type of gathering fills me with terror but I promised myself I would try and integrate with the community here so I agreed to go.  Jenny is going to call for me on Saturday.  I don’t think anyone has called for me since I was a school girl!

It was very sad saying au revoir to Philippe and his family.  Philippe actually cried and Monique, his sister, burst into tears when she realised we weren’t just returning to the UK for winter.  But our Lincolnshire neighbours have given us a very warm welcome and I think we are going to be just fine.

  1. Good neighbours are worth their weight in gold. Not sure I would be up for a chat group though. You must let us know how it goes.

  5. 'calling for' is very much part of village life up here in North Yorkshire where I live too. Good that you are quickly getting to know neighbours before winter sets in and you are not out in the garden.

  6. A ladies' chat group? That is bound to last for about three days! Take a sleeping bag with you.

    2. Paul is going to one - it's being held at the pub. I suspect it will last for more than three minutes.

  7. Sounds a great way to meet the locals to me. Cup of tea and a chat. Maybe a scone. And not walking into a room of strangers alone....very kind. Bet it won't be as bad as you think.

  8. Don't be worried about the chat group. It will be an excellent way of meeting new people and as Helsie said, it's not as it you have to go alone. Have you met people dog walking yet? I have several very good friends who I met on dog walks some years ago. You seem like a very friendly person so you will be fine . X

  10. They'll bring knitting & talk about everyone that's NOT there. And there'll be baked goodies too. I'd rather be in the Pub with the dog.
