Rick Goes Travelling

don't leave me behind

After two days of travelling we have arrived back in Wiltshire and introduced Rick to his winter home.

We closed all the shutters, switched off the electricity, water etc. of our French home yesterday morning and loaded our cases into the car. Rick leapt eagerly into his kennel on the back seat and set off on the longest journey of his little doggy life.  He was such a good boy.  We stopped for a picnic lunch at midday and he thought it was a great adventure.
picnic lunch - I have a mouth stuffed with pizza

We stayed overnight in Paris and took him for a trip up the Eiffel Tower and then a visit to the Folies Bergère.  Okay, we didn’t do that, we stayed in our hotel room and ordered room service and watched Jackie, a biography of Jackie Kennedy.  I thought it was a really mediocre film.We woke early (why are hotel rooms so hot?) so got up, had breakfast and started the second leg of the journey.  Rick behaved impeccably at the pet reception in Calais and his passport passed scrutiny.  We drove straight onto an early train (almost empty with only five vehicles) and he seemed totally unfazed as we hurtled into the tunnel for the crossing under the English Channel.  We were home by lunchtime.

He is a little bewildered by his new surroundings.

  3. Hope he likes England as much as he likes France. I've meant to ask, does he bark in French?

    1. I think he will miss his garden and the French countryside. Yes, he barks in French and only responds to French commands.

  5. I saw Jackie and was super unimpressed. It was free on our HBO tv app so I was thankful I didn't pay to see it.

Rick is so cute, and a very good boy!

    1. We watched it on a freebie channel too, very disappointing but it whiled away an evening. Rick didn't seem to mind.

  7. Whatever did you blog about before you got Rick. Your entries are so much fun to read. It`s like those adventure books we got in Primary school, ``Fun with Rick, Paul and Susan``.

  9. I thought the area seemed very quiet over the weekend; I'd forgotten you were leaving so soon. In the days when I overwintered in England, Nov 5th was always my marker too.

It's 4 C this morning, with very low temps to continue for a while. Enjoy your central heating!

    1. Freezing and frosty this morning, the central heating clicked on at half six. (Unfortunately we were up before that!) Crumpets for tea.

  10. What a good boy Rick is, and good to know he wasn't fazed by the travelling, hotel stay and the train journey. I'm sure he'll soon get used to his restricted life in the apartment. The downside is having to anticipate his needs, take him out and keep him on his lead.

    1. It's not going to be easy but he is a dog of routine and will get lots of walks during the day. He is going to visit the local pet shop this afternoon.

  11. For some reason I had the impression that your UK quarters were/are a flat, does Rick have a 'back door' and a garden? Meanwhile back in France, we have had the oilfired C/H on three evenings in a row.

    1. It's a coach house, no garden. We are going to be house hunting in the New Year to find something more dog friendly.
