Found My Dream Home!

Our property search in England (for Rick’s house with a garden) will not begin in earnest until next year but it doesn’t stop me browsing through Rightmove to get a feel for the housing market in different areas of the country.

Yesterday I found this 17th century, half timbered house in Shropshire.  It is Grade II listed so it is almost impossible to make any changes, it will have thin walls and very little insulation, it needs a new kitchen and bathroom, it is next to a brook so probably has damp problems too.  It only has two bedrooms, the rooms are small and dark.  But I think it’s lovely!

  3. It's already got the Stannah in place so no worries there.

  4. Sounds to me like a property best left to the imagination.

  5. I've always wanted a house with it's own stream. I owned a very similar Shropshire house. I bought it as an investment, and restored it. In places it had single-skin brick walls and must have been difficult to heat. I heaved a huge sigh of relief when I sold it.

    1. My friend lives in a medieval half timbered house in Essex, I can still remember how thin the walls were and how cold it was.

  6. Very sweet, but I wouldn't want to live there. Give me a modern, easy to run property these days.

  7. Paul could be The Squire of Upper Cound and you could be his serving wench. Alternatively, Rick could be The Lord of the Manor.

    1. That sounds good, not sure about the serving wench part though.

  8. Oooohhh I love the look of it - those floorboards, the timbered rooms, the grounds, the romantic look of it, the stream . . . AH, the stream. I'm a fresh air fiend and love to have doors and windows open, but I'd have nightmares about rats coming in from the stream. I would need to walk away, sadly.

    1. Hello Rambler! Yes, in the cold light of day it's just a romantic notion.
