Only my daughter Sarah would
christen her brand new suitcase, she called him Gandalf the Grey.
She left Sydney on Saturday
afternoon with Gandalf safely stowed away in the aircraft, assured by airport
staff that he would be transferred at each stop. The flight from Abu Dhabi fourteen hours
later was delayed and they arrived in Paris Sunday morning with only a short
time to get through security and onto the internal flight to Toulouse. Sarah ran across Charles de Gaulle airport
and made it onto the airplane, sadly Gandalf did not.
Paul, Kat and I stood eagerly
outside the arrivals hall at Toulouse waiting for the doors to part and Sarah
to magically appear. Alas, she did
not. A text message told us that she was
waiting forlornly at the carousel for Gandalf.
Eventually she received a message from Air France informing her that her
luggage would not arrive until a later flight.
After some tedious form filling she was told that Gandalf will be
delivered by courier on Tuesday. In the
meantime Sarah will have to make do with her mum’s big white pants if she wants
some clean underwear. But at least she is home.
She's home. That's all that matters. The name of the suitcase may change one day.
ReplyDeleteThat is very true.
DeleteIf she calls her suitcase Gandalf perhaps she will call her mother's big white pants The Marquee. Now you are all together you can share some happy days. After what Sarah has been through with The Bearded One, it's so nice that she can be wrapped in the love of her family.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful, first time we have all been together in four years.
DeleteI'm glad to hear that she is home.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could keep her here but she will return to Australia in three weeks' time.
DeleteA couple of years ago my bag went to Spain without me, but eventually it came home.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your daughters' visit.
Did it send you a postcard?
DeleteAn all too familiar story. My son's big fat German car broke down when he visited in July, and he decided to have it repatriated and repaired back in the UK. It will arrive back in England next week. For two months it has been on the back of one of those huge transporters, going from country to country. At the moment it is in Holland. It's all a mystery; I think he'll have to name it Gulliver.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little doubtful as to whether the suitcase will actually be delivered on Tuesday.
DeleteHappy family reunion!
ReplyDeleteGandalf felt he was intruding so will only make his appearance on Tuesday.
Greetings Maria x
Ah, the joys of long distance travel. I'm sure Sarah won't mind your big white pants - it's the togetherness that counts ! Have a great time together, and don't let the girls spoil Rick too much.
