Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire

I’m sure Sarah and Kat didn’t think they would be roasting chestnuts on an open fire when they came out for their ‘summer’ holiday but that’s exactly what we did last night.  They came home from walking Ricky through the chestnut woods with their pockets bulging with chestnuts.  They were delicious.  I couldn’t resist bursting into song until Kat muttered something about Nightmare Before Christmas.

This morning we have woken to a countryside bathed in fog.  I took Rick out early and it was quite spooky walking through the dripping woods.  The weather is not doing a good job of convincing Sarah to move back to Europe.

We are off to explore more castles this afternoon. Rick is coming with us.

  1. The only time I've ever had roasted chestnuts was on the street corners when we were in Paris one fall.

    1. I don't eat many, just one or two. This is chestnut country, our region is famous for it.

  3. Beautiful day here. Almost Indian Summer. I hope it carries on. Chestnuts round the fire is good though. I have lit the woodburner tonight even though I don't really need it; I lit it for company!

    1. It's been a sunny afternoon and evening. Cold though now the sun is going down so we have the woodburner on. Log fires are good company!

  4. Sarah should move further south. It's been another hot and sunny day here, with people on the beach and in the sea. 32º around 8 p.m. and I still have the doors and windows open. We're all longing for cooler weather.
So Rick is getting some more culture then !
