Happy Gotcha Day

Today we are celebrating Rick’s Gotcha Day – it is one year since we adopted him from the Refuge Centre in Cahors.  I remember the day well, he was friendly but quite nervous and unsure of his new home.  Now he is top dog (the only dog!), he runs around the house and garden, jumps up onto the terrace wall and barks at the sparrows in the hazelnut tree. His favourite game is chasing his yellow ball. He adores his routine, knows exactly what time we take him out for walkies and always accompanies me up the stairs at bedtime.  I spoil Rick terribly but, when all’s said and done, he is Paul’s dog; I’m just another member of the pack.

He is a nightmare in the car on short journeys, he chases bikes, cars and tractors, barks at traffic and needs regular grooming but I love him to bits.  He doesn’t beg for food, drool or shed loads of hair.  He is a perfect dog in many respects.

Happy Gotcha Day you hairy, scruffy, noisy mutt.

It's hard to believe it's been a year already. He's a lovely dog.

  2. No one calls me a "hairy, scruffy, noisy mutt" and gets away with it!

  3. Our dog, Ted, has dipped into his pocket on the 19th of May to take us out for a meal on his A (Acquisition) Day for eight years now. His real birthday is unknown but, like The Queen, he has an Official B (Birthday) Day on 17th July midway between ours. We treat him on that day. It would be only fair.

  4. Wow, a year gone by already - I bet it feels as though he has always been with you ! We had Official Birthdays for two of our rescue dogs, because we had no idea of their real birth dates. The others, including Inca, have all come with impressive paperwork, so I know exactly when to celebrate !

  5. What a lovely tribute to him Sue - pity he can't read it. He is a lucky dog too to have found you both.

  6. He's a lovely boy. Bok knows exactly what time it is too. If he's not fed 'on the dot', he becomes irritable and noisy. His 'on the dot' is 3.30 pm; he begins to growl at 3.31 pm.
