House of Cards
It is amazing how quickly everything can come tumbling down around your ears. In the space of a few hours we have lost both our buyers for our two properties; it probably means we will be unable to proceed with our purchase in the Forest of Dean. I knew I shouldn’t have picked the wallpaper so soon.
We thought we were about to exchange contracts on the coach house because all the searches were complete, survey done etc. and the solicitors had prepared all the paperwork. Turns out the female buyer has split from her partner and no longer has the money for the deposit. It’s a pity it took so long for her to reveal this fact to the estate agent. It’s been two months since we accepted her offer.
The same day we hear that the divorcee buying our other property has withdrawn because she has discovered there is someone living close by in the street that she doesn’t like. Duh! I wouldn’t dream of making an offer on a property so lightly.
Needless to say Paul and I are very disappointed. I shall spend the weekend cleaning windows and polishing, shampooing carpets to get this place into show house condition again. We shall book the Eurotunnel and set off to France in a couple of weeks’ time and leave the estate agents to do what we pay them for. We can’t stay here any longer, the grass needs cutting at the chateau.

I hope things will work out for you soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a b*gg*r! And x 2. The grass will certainly need you in France. We had two days running with no rain so ours has been sort of cut.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I am in New Zealand when it comes to selling houses. U.K. sounds horrendous. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! The buying and selling of properties is such a damned lottery, isn't it? It is only when keys are handed over that you know for sure that the business is done. It shouldn't be that way. There should be better laws that govern the process more strictly.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry - it's all very frustrating when this happens but sometimes it means that you go on to find something even better and feel happy with the way things turned out.Do hope this happens for you!
ReplyDeleteHow disappointing for you. Houses are selling so quickly in my part of the world - I wish you had the same circumstances. I hope things turn around for you quickly. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame, here in the States people who back out of a deal lose their deposit.
ReplyDeleteHow disappointing for you. They should both lose their deposits. Hopefully something much better will come along for you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Sue! I agree that they should have lost deposits. Like Janice, I'm hoping there's something better out there for you.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the house you wanted will still be waiting for you when you get new buyers
ReplyDeletewhat a shame! Such an awful process. Something better will turn up, it wasn't meant for you ...blah, blah.
ReplyDeleteThe sun will be shining in France and perhaps , with your furniture etc in storage and the feeling of urgency past, you may be able to come upon something more perfect for your desires. At least you have somewhere to go !
I'm sorry to hear that!
ReplyDeletePut the price up before you leave!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your comments. Hope you'll stick with me on this roller coaster ride.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that you've lost both your prospective buyers - that really is bad luck. Someone else will turn up, and go through with the purchase, it just takes time to find the right one !
ReplyDeletevery sorry to hear about this. Hopefully, when all is said and done, fate will take you to exactly where you are meant to be. :: hugs ::
