Shepherd's Warning

Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning...

We had the most amazing sunrise this morning.  Paul took this photo while out with Rick; the church tower makes a fine silhouette.

I took these photos from the kitchen sink...

the camera didn't capture the deep red hues

arty farty version (shaky hands with the camera!)

    1. Red skies in the morning usually indicate bad weather coming. Red skies at night (shepherd's delight) indicate good weather. Something to do with the light reflection on the clouds.

    2. Thank you for answering my question. That is wonderful. I will remember it always and when I see a red sky I will remember Sue.

    1. I think it would make an interesting painting.

  3. It's not a shepherd's warning... it's a sailor's warning. "Red sky at night - a shepherd's delight etc." Sorry Sue but I was once a teacher. I can't help myself.

    1. All these years I've been saying it wrong!

    2. Now I have researched it a little and it seems there are different versions of the old rhyme. It can indeed be a "shepherd's warning". I apologise for any distress my earlier comment may have caused.

  4. I jusr can't get my camera on a setting to take this kind of colour - it is beautiful and certainly we didn't have that here.

    1. My camera always disappoints when I try and capture a vivid colour.

  5. Funnily enough I was trying to explain this to a couple of workers in the vines this am. They are from Portugal and I think that a lot got lost in translation.
We all agreed that it was good to look at and there was no rain at the time.

    1. Do you say shepherd or sailor?

    2. Sailor. But I realied long before the end of our 'conversation' that these wise old sayings don't relate to other parts of the world where they have Climate rather than Weather.

  6. Red sky at night, shepherd's delight, red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning. I could see a very odd coloured sky from my bed and thought it was a storm coming, so got out and had a look. It was all part of the sunrise in a very grey sky.

    1. It was quite exceptional here this morning, only lasted about ten minutes. Mother Nature showing off. A bit drizzly and damp here today but not bad weather.

    1. Paul used his phone for the top pic, I used a camera. I think the phone got the best results.

  8. Beautiful. We've been having the same here. Two evenings ago, I couldn't understand why the sitting room was so red. It was all that outdoor Shepherd's delight.

    1. I might try and recreate it with paints onto canvas one day.
