Our Christmas has started early. It feels a bit strange having the weekend immediately before Christmas so, once Kat arrived home on Friday evening, we started our merry making .
You may remember that our tree was without an angel or fairy. Kat wielded her magic with her crochet needle and we now have Annie the Angel atop the tree.
On Friday afternoon I was daft enough to let Paul and Sarah visit the local Farm Shop while I stayed home and made our annual Whisky Dundee Cake. They came home with some very expensive liqueurs (Rhubarb and Ginger and Sloe), cheeses and a turkey crown big enough to feed the whole village. Well, it is Christmas.
Today I unearthed my jar of pickled walnuts (as per Cro’s recipe) and nervously served them with cheese at lunchtime. They were delicious. Probably the last time we will have them as I no longer have a convenient walnut tree nearby. We finished lunch with cherries in eau de vie. We savoured them again in the knowledge that we no longer have an endless supply of cherries and eau de vie.
