Last Day of the Year



Kat’s request for her birthday yesterday was food, alcohol and games.  A bit like when she was small except there was only alcohol for adults in those days and the food was easier.  I did have to do the Prosecco jelly again though.

After another day of eating and drinking we are all feeling a bit stuffed.  Paul is making soup today.  And baking bread.  He’s also just going outside to rotovate his new vegetable patch.  Then he's going to make pizza for supper. Superman. He makes me feel lazy. 

The last day of 2018.  This time last year we were talking about the possibility of selling our flat and buying a bigger place with a garden for Rick.  Well, it all came about and after a couple of false starts here we are having our first Christmas and New Year in Lincolnshire.  It’s certainly been a busy year. 

It feels strange not to be planning our return to France for the summer and I keep trying to imagine the new people in the house.  The quick sale was so unexpected. But we have lots of plans for our new home and the garden will keep us busy.

We will see the New Year in at home, six of us including Rick and Craig, Kat’s boyfriend.  We might just shock the neighbours and end up doing the Conga around the village at midnight.  Do-do-do, come and do the conga...

    Happy new year to you all. I would love the recipe for that Prosecco jelly - is it possible? Hope you do the conga round the village - that'll liven up Lincolnshire a bit.

      If I was a proper chef I'd use gelatine leaves but, because Kat has a sweet tooth, I cheat and use the Hartley's jelly cubes. I use fresh fruit, strawberries, blue berries and raspberries. Use half the fruit and spread across the base of a flat dish, make a pint of jelly using half water and topping up with half a pint of Prosecco and pour across the fruit. Put in 'fridge to set for an hour or two. Then put another layer of fruit and pour another pint of jelly (half water, half Prosecoo) and back into the fridge to set. It's very easy.

    More jelly? I had an Aunt who made 'Trifles' that were so alcoholic that you only had to sniff them to get tipsy. A good dollop was always served to everyone; including small children (me). Best wishes to all, Cro x

    Happy New Year to you all. I was going to go to bed at usual time...10, but ended up watching Madness/fireworks etc and drinking with my son until about 1.30 I think it was. " Hair of the dog" to be taken at the New Year's Day lunch party later !!

    I think that you and Paul should plan a package holiday for say early June. Perhaps Crete or Minorca - somewhere like that. Rick can spend a week or two in kennels. Such a plan will help you through the wintry weeks ahead.
