Fruit or Vegetable?

Sarah’s vegepod is doing well, although the tomatoes have swamped the beans.  A few weeks ago Paul removed two unidentified plants from the pod and planted them outside.  He was pretty sure they were rogue courgette (zucchini) plants from the compost.  Their leaves have been growing well but there has been no sign of any baby courgettes forming; they usually produce fairly quickly once the plant reaches a certain size.

Today we inspected the plant and Paul now thinks they may actually be melons.  Looking very closely you can just see a tiny fruit developing.  Sarah will be well chuffed if she gets some free home grown melons.

Summer has arrived in Australia and the Frangipani tree is now in full bloom.

  3. Oh, to have a pot of basil and some tomatoes growing right now! The smell of tomato leaves and basil are two of my very favorite scents on Earth!

It's so strange to think it's summer where you are. I'm so tired of the short, dark days here already.

    1. It has been like a long, perpetual summer for us but we are returning to the cold, dark days in a week's time.

  6. I wonder if those veggies will escape the mildew that comes with hot, humid weather ? It's not easy to grow vegetables in our hot Summer weather. Hot enough for you down there, it was 37 degrees here yesterday? I might hitch a ride back with you next week !

    1. No, I doubt they will escape the mildew, the tomatoes are already suffering. A bit cooler down here, very pleasant today. Are you sure you want to go to colder climes?

  7. The other day I saw a woman at the fruit section in "Lidl". She had gala melons pressed against her chest, one each hand. It was all I could do to stop myself from saying, "Nice pair of melons you've got there missus!"
