Blue Tooth

Paul took me shopping this morning.  I leave my purse at home because it’s easier to let Paul pay for everything and leaves my hands free to gather up all the goodies.

My bargain buys of the day were a pair of flip-flops (or thongs) for the summer and a drink bottle for my bike – both half price.  On the more expensive side I bought a Blue Tooth speaker.  This is quite an extraordinary purchase for me because since I lost the majority of my hearing I find it difficult to listen to music and have really got out of the habit doing so.  But the other day I mentioned to Paul that it would be nice to listen to some jazz, blues or classical stuff on the terrace in the evenings while we’re having a drink, something smooth and classy.

I'm going to have to figure out how to use it because the last time I played any music it came out of a CD player and blue teeth hadn't been invented.

In the meantime Paul is happily compiling a play list so that he can link up his smartphone or laptop to the speaker.  I have told him that there are some sounds that I just can’t tolerate due to my deafness and he is strictly forbidden from playing anything by Donna Summer or Britney Spears.  He’s just asked me if it’s OK to add John Denver...

  1. I didn't know you had lost most of your hearing. I'm glad that you can use blue tooth and still enjoy music. I hope the speaker works out great for you!

I like those flip flops. They're very pretty!

  2. Aha.... maybe that's what I need. At the moment I just turn the volume up from the studio, but if my laptop can send a WiFi message to an outdoor speaker that would be far better. Is that how it works? I've never known what blue teeth were; other than using my blue toothpaste.

    1. They don't really work that well with laptops. You can get conflicts with the channel the laptop uses to connect to the internet. Range is only about 10 metres. They really work with smart phones.

    2. Thanks Paul. I think I need extension wires for my speakers.

  3. There is a Blue Tooth conection in the car that is as unused as the cruise control and something else on the left hand side of the steering wheel. I am sorry to say that we have become useless at all these modern things, and my mobile is for phone calls - if I can remember how to switch it on.
I am not proudly defiant in my ignorance. I know that we are misssing out.

  4. I made quite a lot of money out of Bluetooth development techi shares in 2001/2002. All the technology was there then and we talked about getting rid of "all these wires" one day. It seems to have taken an age for it to actually get here.

    1. It's all clever stuff. Paul understands how it all works, I just use it.
