Topsy Turvy

A few days after Kat and Craig returned to the UK after their wedding they hired a van and drove up to Lincolnshire to collect the furniture that we had been storing for the last four years.

red sofas

After they left it looked like we had been burgled!  The stylish red leather sofas in the sitting room had gone, as had the king size bed and bedside cabinets in the guest room.  Rick was bereft, his favourite chair at the window had disappeared.  Paul was delighted to be able to reclaim his garage that had previously been stacked with boxes and a wardrobe.

The bedroom furniture was quickly and easily replaced but buying new sofas has not been so straightforward.  After a lengthy trawl around the shops we finally found something that met our requirements – stylish but comfortable (must be high backed) and dog proof.  The wait for delivery is several weeks, hopefully towards the end of May, so in the meantime we are using our garden chairs to sit on.  With the chairs grouped in a semi circle facing the television it resembles a sitting room in an old people’s home.

Paul has been happily re-organising his garage.  Sarah probably needs to remind him that a container of furniture will be arriving from Australia later this summer.

  1. I love your idea of garden furniture as a temporary measure but agree that it does give the look of an old peoples home. I look forward to seeing your new furniture.

    1. I hope there is no delay with the delivery - these chairs aren't great for slouching.

  2. Oh that's a shame - I was rather taken with the red sofa. Poor Rick will miss his lookout chair - how is he going to keep an eye on things? Must admit to never having found a dog-proof sofa yet - not until they are too old to climb up.
Never mind - a good excuse to buy something new. Will it mean a new rug and curtains too?

    1. Dog-proof means it has to be leather. Curtains and rug are staying.

  4. The garden chairs look quite stylish. I was imagining the fold-up kind!

    1. They are reasonably comfortable and they do recline!

    1. I've opted for a more neutral colour so it might look a bit dull after the red. I might need to jazz it up a bit.

  6. I hope the new leather is bright and cheerful stripes in Matisse style. Do you remember I called it the doctors waiting room when you first moved in? Now you have created the care home look. Oh I just read your reply to Susan. Never mind.

    1. Never fear, it won't be dull. I just like a neutral background to work with. Rick has already adopted my new antelope stripe accent chair (to achieve harmony in bad taste is the height of elegance. Jean Genet).

  7. Those red sofas are awesome! I'd be sad to see them go.

We've been shopping for new, comfortable chairs for our living room, and the selection in the stores around here is abysmal. Not to our taste at all. We've tried to avoid buying furniture online, but we may not have any other choice if we're to find something we like.

Rick needs a new lookout chair!

    1. I think buying sofas is the hardest thing to get right. I would never buy feather stuffed sofas again - we had them in France and I was forever plumping up the cushions. Leather is always very hard wearing and easy to clean.

  8. We had to rid ourselves of the leather suite in France as bare skin in shorts used to 'stick' in the warm weather! We sold them off to a family with very large dogs and they were very comfy on them!

    1. I would have liked jewel coloured velvet sofas but it just wouldn't be practical with Rick.
