Staying Cosy

It’s a dark and dismal day here in Lincolnshire.  The rain started when I took Rick out for his early morning walk and has continued throughout the day.  They have forecast snow on the high ground so this rain may turn into something else later.

staying cosy

It is definitely a day for staying indoors and keeping warm.  The central heating does a good job of keeping the bungalow warm but today we have the living flame fire alight in the sitting room to give an extra feeling of cosiness.  Earlier this morning I decided that some comfort food was the order of the day.  Paul and I try to eat healthily and avoid eating too much cake and biscuit, our only indulgence is a single finger of a Kit Kat chocolate bar with a cup of coffee in the evening.  But today I made some oat biscuits.  They started off fairly healthy and wholesome and then I went and spoilt it all by drizzling dark chocolate over them.  A naughty but nice tasty treat to accompany our afternoon cup of tea.

not very dainty biscuits

  1. We used to have a Mars Bar cut up between six of us when I was a child and I started to wonder yesterday about me having a whole bar with a cup of tea now. I am back to to cutting it up. One Mars should last be all week. I didn't realise what a miserable day it was until I went out just now. Everywhere is flooded. And it is cold.

    1. I've never been able to eat a whole Mars Bar but I used to love a small slice straight from the fridge. I love chocolate but it has to be cold and crisp.

    2. Rachel - I remember my father used to bring home a Mars bar sometimes and it was also cut in slices - there were four of us.

  2. I see from your wall that you love hares too. I collect pictures, statues etc. Lincolnshire is a good place to see them although I believe they are not as common as they were during my childhood.

    1. I've seen a few running across the fields when we have been out on our bikes.

  3. Mars Bars are one of the few sweets that have remained a favourite of mine from a very young child. It's no problem to eat a whole one, but just a rare treat these days.
Your room looks so cosy and inviting - just the place to spend a miserable day, and even better with those oat biscuits.
Sunshine and blue skies here, but there's a bitterly cold wind - around 12º in the shade, and even in the sun I needed a coat when I walked Inca along the promenade this morning.

    1. Definitely missing some sunshine right now. Was it the promenade at Calpe?

    2. Not the main one near to town, renal Beach, that you would know. It was La Fossa Beach, which is our nearest, about 5 mins drive away, downhill. We went again this morning for breakfast - sunny and blue skies but the wind was cutting, and too cold for a decent walk.

    3. That should be Arenal Beach!

  4. They look yummy! Dark chocolate is supposedly good for you. I try to have a couple of squares every day (who am I kidding - it's definitely at least two squares a day!)

    1. I actually prefer milk chocolate but that is definitely not good for my waistline.

  5. A fire makes everything cozy and warm. Lovely for a rainy day. Your oat biscuit looks delicious and perfect with a cup of tea. It was 50 degrees here and sunny today. Rain for the weekend.

  6. The cookies look very yummy! Chocolate is my major downfall, and hubbies as well. Although he is in a McIntosh soft caramels faze at the moment!!

    1. These rough weather days are ideal for baking and staying warm by the fire.

  9. Apologies for an 'in the old days' comment, but didn't we used to use the Mars bar as a marker for the Pound depreciation? Slicing the bar only emphasized that it was originally too big to eat in one go. Has is actually reduced in size now like Wagon Wheels?
Those biscuits look great. Bags the one with the most chocolate on!

    1. Wagon Wheels used to be enormous when I was a child. Everything seems to get smaller as you get older!

  12. If only I could whittle my consumption down to one finger of kitkat a day! I did try one segment of chocolate orange but it's crept up to two. Then there's the Genoa cake...
