Parsnipgate

Last night I roasted the infamous bag of frozen parsnips with some carrots to accompany the boeuf bourgignon I had made in honour of Kat's birthday.  This morning I chopped up the leftover parsnips and carrots, sauteed some onions and garlic, added some spices, a chopped apple and chicken stock and simmered the whole lot for twenty minutes.

It was a very tasty soup, maybe a bit on the thick side but everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Forget the soup, just give me the rabbit

  2. Your parsnip soup looks delicious and sounds very tasty. Is that Rick's Christmas rabbit? Poor boy, just wants his rabbit. All the best for 2021!

    1. He has had Mr Bunny for a couple of years now. This is Mr Bunny mark three and daughter Kat was teasing him with it.

  4. Ohh, that looks good! Do you use an immersion blender (hand held thing) for your soups? I did a split pea and ham soup the other day. -Jenn

    1. Yes I do, I call it my whizzer. Usually manage to splatter stuff everywhere in the process.

    2. It's called the outboard motor in my house. Always splatter and again when the too thick soup heats to boiling mud bits jump out of the saucepan.

  5. Lady M surprised me with a small bag of Parsnips on Christmas Eve, with instructions to roast them along with the Turkey, etc. Having done what I was ordered, it only helped cement my view of Parsnips. Sorry, but I really don't like them.

  6. It's just the weather for a hearty soup and some crusty bread. Can't remember the last time I (voluntarily) had a parsnip, probably because I wasn't too keen when forced to eat them (along with sprouts) as a child!

  7. Life would be so dull if you didn't have the occasional domestic -gates. For example in the past week we have had vergegate, dish washergate and badgergate. However, we have not had to endure daughtergate or Katgate. Perhaps this is the moment when roles are reversed with mum and dad becoming the naughty children.

    1. This is exactly what we told Kat today - she is turning into Saffy from Ab Fab.
