Garden Solace

Our garden is giving us considerable solace during this difficult lockdown period.  Days seem still and repetitive at the moment but things in the garden are changing every day now that spring is here.  The japonica shrub is in full flower and the big, pinky-red flower buds of our tree peony are just about to unfold.

Foxgloves and lupins planted in the autumn are looking very healthy and I was very happy to see the tips of our two hosta plants just peeking through the soil.  The plum trees are looking pretty with white blossom and hopefully we will get a good crop of plums later in the year.

Paul has been busy sowing and the greenhouse and my garden room are crowded with young plants. It’s that time of year when he claims every sunny window sill in the house for his pots.  Using a piece of plastic guttering for the beetroot and spring onion seedlings has been very successful.

The local garden centre has closed although they are offering a home delivery service.  Luckily Paul and I paid a visit just prior to the lockdown so we have all that we need for the summer ahead.

  1. Garden Supervisor knows nothing of the Lockdown - just enjoys your company and the sun - in that order.

    1. He seems to like the fact that we are home all day with him.

  2. Does Paul have any other hobbies apart from gardening?

    2. Hopefully you find them as fulfilling as gardening.

  3. We are so fortunate to have gardens we can pass hours in during this pandemic. Did you think of a temporary return to nursing Sue - to help the NHS's great battle against our invisible enemy?

P.S. Sorry that Paul can no longer offer his popular stripogram service to hen parties and Women's Institute meetings. The resulting loss of income must be a real concern.

    1. My registration lapsed decades ago so I wouldn't be able to offer much nowadays; I'm helping by staying at home. Meanwhile Paul is developing his services on line.

  4. I suppose I really should start sowing seeds. I'm still hoping that I'll be able to buy plants from Gamme Vert before planting time (now only 3 weeks away).

    1. Not sure where we can buy any plants from at the moment. Paul used to buy a lot of stuff from the market man in VdP.

  5. It looks as if Garden Supervisor is waiting patiently with his tennis ball in his mouth - hoping someone will come and play!
