Playing Possum
We ventured out again this morning and successfully found some dog food at our local animal food outlet. This shop is tucked away on an industrial estate and tends to be used by farmers and equestrian types. Ricky will not go hungry.
While we were in Market Rasen we popped into the supermarket and managed to buy some spelt flour, the only pack left on the shelf. Paul has never made bread with spelt before so it will be interesting to see how it turns out. I was going to buy a couple of tins of white beans but there wasn’t a single can in sight. Extraordinary.
Sarah and Kat continue to enjoy their special sister time together in Australia. After a day on the beach they lit a campfire and roasted marshmallows. As dusk fell the possums came out to play. A unique and precious time for both girls. All too soon they will be returning to the city.

I was surprised to see the possum. We only have the kind with the "naked" rat-like tail. They aren't really indigenous to Ontario, but have come up from the United States (some say aboard trucks, but I don't know if that's true). Your daughters will have this memory forever - linking a world event with a nice time together. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThe possums were after their marshmallow sticks. Curious little critters.
DeleteI remember petrol rationing and the Suez crisis. We seemed to not be able to go anywhere and could only use one car that had low fuel consumption and mum came to pick me up from school in grandad's car. I was at kindergarten for half a day at the time learning to read and write.
ReplyDeleteThat was the year I was born. I can't remember ever seeing totally empty supermarket shelves like this. And the toilet roll phenomenon seems worldwide.
DeleteGood that you managed to get Rick some nosh or he would have been taking chunks out of his owners.
ReplyDeleteI was hugely relieved to find some stocks of dog food. I know he would eat whatever we give him but he has a delicate tummy and I have cream coloured carpets.
DeleteI think your girls are doing the right thing. Keeping away from the hoi polloi is probably the best thing to do. It looks really nice there too!
ReplyDeleteIt looks idyllic. Such a shame they can't stay there a bit longer.
DeleteI don't know how it happened but suddenly I have 3 cats that I need to feed here, I hope there will be no shortage of food.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they know there's a crisis!
DeleteThat last photo looks like paradise, and I wouldn't be in any hurry to leave it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found food for Rick and some flour for Paul's bread.
They are extending their trip for a couple more days before they return to harsh reality.
DeleteI've been quite stunned by the people fighting each other to fill a buggy with toilet paper. Sugar, I can understand but TP?? I keep asking whatinhell are people doing with it???? We're just supposed to stay at home for two weeks to give the medical community a break & slow down the bug. People are holding big wedding receptions - yup, one up the road - & partying on the beach - right in downtown Vancouver!! So now the whole town is ordered to shut down as of midnight tonight except drive-thrus & essential business.
ReplyDeletePeople can be incredibly selfish. What's so hard about staying at home?
DeleteThat's true - and there are those who think the rules don't apply to them. Glad the girls are enjoying extra time in such a peaceful place.
ReplyDeleteThe campsites are shutting down in Australia tomorrow so they will have to return to the city.
