Scrooge

Today we drove to Kirton Lindsey, a small nearby town.  There’s not much to say about the place except that Catherine Parr, one of Henry VIII’s wives, used to live there.  It has a very pretty windmill and an exceptional garden centre.  It was the garden centre that we chose to visit today.

Santa’s grotto was closed but the rest of the shop was an enchanting series of different coloured rooms full of tempting sparkling treasures.  So we went from the white room with icicles, animated polar bears and penguins into the silver room with crystal glass and stars, then into the rich, gold glittery room and finally into the red and green room with santas and elves.  I could easily have spent a small fortune on Christmas baubles and table decorations and cinnamon candles.

But I resisted temptation and went through the magical coloured rooms into the garden shop  and bought a ball of twine,a hand trowel and some fleece lined clogs.

  1. That sounds more like America than the England I remember.

  2. Fleece lined clogs. The Dutch will be turning in their graves.

  3. Fleece lined clogs? That is the height of decadence - on a par with heated toilet seats and diamond-studded dog collars!...No way Rick!

  4. Rather than Santa's grotto being closed, I expect it wasn't yet open. He doesn't arrive until December 24th; at least not here!

    1. I reckon it will be up and running this weekend. They should re-christen Winter and just call it Christmas.

    2. Don't suggest that to anyone, they just might adopt it.

  7. I have oodles of wrapping paper I'll probably never entirely use; everyone wants gift cards!

    1. We have several rolls of Xmas wrapping paper that I packed and brought with us when we moved. I can't believe I actually did that.

  8. When my son was a baby I lived for some five years in the village of Aisthorpe, near to the village of Ingham and not all that far from Kirton Lindsey. A chap in our village used to teach there.
