Walking on Ice

ice beard

The paths looked very icy and slippery this morning.  I was nervous about walking Rick so I googled ‘how to walk on ice’ and found an article.

The first thing it said was “Prepare to fall.”  Uh-huh.  Apart from saying that you should take small steps and walk like a penguin it wasn’t overly helpful.  So I sent Paul out with Rick instead.  He said the pavements weren’t at all slippery.

Storm Emma is supposed to be meeting the Beast from the East later this afternoon and dumping several tonnes of snow on the south west.  I have a hospital appointment in Bath tomorrow that I have decided to cancel.  I waited six weeks for the appointment.  Now I have to wait another six weeks.  Better that than ending up in an icy ditch.

  1. Couldn't agree more. Anything that is non urgent is best left until the weather improves. However carefully one drives there is always the other driver coming the other way to bear in mind isn't there?

    1. It's not urgent but just frustrating when an appointment coincides with the one day of the year that this county gets snow!

  2. We have high winds which are bitterly cold, whipping up the snow into drifts, worse than the days when the snow actually came. I have my second 3 hour dentist appointment in the morning. I can't even get the car out of the garage. I have been trying to clear snow this afternoon. I am scared to cut a long story short and it has nothing to do with my teeth.

    1. I'm a bit mystified by your last sentence?

    2. Sorry. It is the snow. I am snowed in. I don't want to miss the dental appointment. I will probably attempt to get there and get stuck in a drift. I am alone. Hence I am quite scared about it all,

    3. That's a tough one. Normally I would advise someone to stay put but I know how important this appointment is for you. If you attempt to get there make sure you take blankets, food and a hot flask in case you get stuck. And a shovel. Good luck. I shall be worrying about you!

    4. Oh Rachel, now you have me worried too. Hope the weather has changed for better and you can get to your dental appointment, there, back safe again.

    5. I have had to cancel. I cannot get out of my drive. At least that settled it! Appointment rearranged.

  3. I don't like to mention it, BUT, it's quite pleasant here. A bit windy, and no snow. A quick look at the Meteo shows daytime temps now in the teens for quite a while. Stay warm.

  4. Haha, what a cute photo of Rick! He looks good in anything: with ribbons, eyebrow strips, icebeard, backpack, natural or thawed...
I'm so scared to slip on ice which is more slippery on marble slate pavements that cover a good part of our pavements in town.

    1. He loves the snow but his paws get iced up.

  5. The look on Rick's face is priceless ! He knows that you didn't want to take him for a walk, so sent him out with Paul instead. He has that "I could have stayed indoors all cuddled up in the warm" look - just to make you feel guilty !

    1. He loves burying his nose in the snow, hence the snow beard!

  6. I have never seen a"real" snow and always wonder how the dogs can walk barefoot on the snow.

    1. I think this might be the first time Rick has ever seen snow. We have to warm his paws when he gets home, he needs boots!

  7. How annoying to have to cancel when you've waited so long for an appointment! Rick does look supercute with his snowbeard!
