House Search
Yesterday we had the first viewing of our ‘modern coach house’. We took Rick out for a long walk while the agent took care of the visit. The prospective buyers made an offer straightaway. We turned it down but are hoping they will come back with a counter offer later today. We could be ‘homeless’ sooner than we thought!
The quest to find another home has suddenly become more urgent. We have trawled through Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire. Yesterday we discovered Pembrokeshire! We hadn’t previously considered Wales, Pembrokeshire is about as remote as you can get. But the countryside and rugged coastline is beautiful so we might have to investigate it further.
The search is much harder than we thought it would be. We have found umpteen houses that would make perfect homes but the gardens are never big enough. When we find the garden then the house is not right. Last week we thought we had found the ideal home but after checking the satellite image we could see it was sandwiched between a power station and the motorway!
The area we are considering is huge so while Rick and Paul were at school this morning, I made myself a ‘house board’ so I can remind myself where prospective properties are placed geographically. We have them all listed on Rightmove but this board helps me to recall them at a glance and I know instantly, for example, that the ‘kitchen house’ is the house with the fantastic kitchen.
I think we will shortly be going on a few road trips to do some house viewings. Yes, Rick will come too!

One of these yellow stickers will make you almost my next door neighbour.
ReplyDeleteHa-ha, be afraid!
DeleteThere's a good dentist there!
DeleteBut no where to take a dog.
DeletePoor Rick! That's why we need a big garden.
DeleteHappy Hunting to you !
ReplyDeleteThank you Heron
DeleteMy oh my! You have found some incredibly cheap houses. Checking out your post-it notes I see that most of your chosen houses are just over £300 a piece! That's amazing. I am sure that the right house is out there waiting for you.
ReplyDeleteI just hope I recognise the right house when I see it. My heart is still fighting with my head.
DeleteIn that case, just leave it up to Paul to choose.
DeleteHow wonderful to have an offer so soon! IF accepted and things go smoothly you could be packing into a store and returning to France. We have a couple of viewings in the next few days but it really is a buyers market here, I would love to get the money, do a store in the UK and rent for a period rather than having to sell/buy on the same day! Plus I fear having to make all the arrangements. Lesley
ReplyDeleteThey've upped their offer so we will probably accept. We just need to find a new home here before we can return to France for the summer. Good luck with your viewings.
DeleteDo hope all goes to plan and you find the right house. Selling quickly and renting while we looked worked well on our last move but not so easy when you're in France for the summer
ReplyDeleteI suspect we might be making a few trips back to the UK this summer.
DeleteI holidayed in Pembrokeshire for many years - it is very beautiful - wonderful cliff path.
ReplyDeleteI've never been but the coast does look spectacular.
DeleteSounds like you could either be Rachel's or John Gray's neighbour. Clever idea the "house board"
ReplyDeleteI hope your hip is better Sue.
Greetings Maria x
I think Rachel's getting worried!
DeleteI was here first! Once you take a look at where you have chosen you won't be moving here fast.
DeleteLovely countryside around Oswestry - The Old Racecourse would be great to walk Rick.
ReplyDeleteThe countryside does look lovely although we don't really want to be any further north than Oswestry.
Deletehopefully a good counter (or better offer from someone else) is right around the corner!
ReplyDeleteThey've upped their offer and we've accepted.
DeleteMy late father always said that the finest word in the English language is 'SOLD'; I think he was right.
ReplyDeleteStrangely I feel a bit sad this time, although relieved the process might be quick and painless. This place has been a good bolthole over the last decade.
DeleteHave you moved many times over the years? We're only in our second house in 27 years of marriage. I couldn't imagine packing up and moving right now! However, we still have our 18 year old at home, and the 21 year old comes back from university for the summer. Good luck on your search! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteSince we got married we have moved house six times. I just want to get settled now!
DeleteIs the French dream over?
DeleteIt's not completely over but it is changing. Our French house will revert to being a holiday home, Paul's potager will be grassed over. Partly due to Brexit uncertainties and trying to prepare for the future.
DeleteOh.
