Tour de Scarecrow

On Sunday morning Paul and I took advantage of the early sunshine and cycled south towards the village of Spridlington before turning east through Hackthorn, across the A15, uphill past Scampton airfield and then north along the ridge. I always enjoy cycling the ridge, it’s one of the highest points in the area and the views are amazing.

It’s nice to have a distraction when you’re cycling. These scarecrows made me giggle as we rode through the villages of Normanby and Omwby. They were just three out of twenty four exhibits for a Scarecrow Trail.

  2. I was with you in spirit all the way Sue - our first house after our son was born in 1958 was just below the ridge you speak of - Scampton airfield was directly above us.The villages are Scampton village, Aisthorpe and Brattleby (we bought Aisthorpe school and had it converted into a house) At Ingham, the next village, you can get back up on to the ridge again. 1. Our doctor's surgery is at Ingham and sometimes we walk Rick at Cammeringham and up to Brattleby.

  3. Very nicely inspired life-sized scarecrows are whimsical and lovely to see. A ride with landscape views as well as scarecrows sounds good to me too.

  4. Those are fun! I thought you might be interested to know that a lot of our towns, villages, counties, etc.in Ontario are named after the originals in England, Scotland, and so on. I live close to Normanby Township and there is a school named Normanby as well. It's very rural. -Jenn

  6. That last photo! For a moment I thought that Paul had dumped you in the wheelie bin for criticising his lawnmowing.

    1. He probably would do that if I criticised his mowing.
