Has summer finally arrived? It’s certainly been a fabulous day here in Lincolnshire.
Paul and I ventured out on our bikes for the first time this year. We didn’t go far, I wanted to check everything was in working order before going further afield so we did a gentle 16.5 km ride . Conditions were perfect and it felt good to be out cycling along the rural lanes. Tomorrow Kat is going to join us so no doubt we will go a bit further and faster (yes, I am slightly worried about this!).
We spent most of the day pottering in the garden and enjoyed a long and leisurely lunch on the terrace. What a difference a little sunshine makes.

Oh, the lupins are gorgeous! I've tried growing them here with no luck. Lunch on the patio, what a wonderful idea. Not warm enough here today, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI've just noticed that the lupins have a subtle peppery scent in the warmth of the sun.
DeleteYour patio luncheon on a warm sunny day sounds delightful Your table, seating and umbrella look like a vacation setting overlooking the garden. Beautiful. Speed and I do not mesh well so I see your concern. The veg garden looks nicely enclosed and must be thriving as well as your lupins. Only 10 degrees above freezing in Massachusetts today. Cold and raining after 90 degree days is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteWe were just very keen to make the most of the sunshine, we don't get many days like ths.
DeleteI had to laugh a bit at your "gentle 16.5 km" reference! That would be quite a journey for me. That garden is lovely and the lupins are beautiful. My lupins never seem to last, or self-seed very well. Your lunch looks divine as well. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteOur lupins are a bit thuggish, they are trying to take over the border.
Delete27 C yesterday, 26 C today, some rain forecast for next week. The pool water reached 19 C yesterday; we shall wait a while!
ReplyDeleteThose temperatures sound ideal to me, although I would give the pool a miss!
DeleteI love those lupins. I have tried to grow them a few times, but they never come back the next year. I think they get eaten by snails and slugs before they can get going! I have moved on to foxgloves....they seem to be doing OK!
ReplyDeleteWe have foxgloves too although it will be a week or two before we see any flowers.
DeleteThe garden looks so beautiful, and the food looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yael, the garden is my favourite place.
DeleteLike the look of both garden and lunch.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat, I love eating lunch outside in the sunshine.
DeleteIn those first two photos, you could be in the Mediterranean - it looks absolutely idyllic. Lunch looks so inviting, and what a perfect way to spend a sunny day.
ReplyDeleteLove the lupins - not sure if they grow here, it might be too warm.
Someone told me yesterday that Spain will have the hottest summer ever, breaking all previous records. Not something any of us are looking forwards to - it was high 20's when I took Inca out on our morning walk about an hour ago.
A hot summer sounds quite nice to me, providing you have air con, a pool and plenty of cold drinks!
DeleteIt is good to feel the heat of the sun isn't it? I suppose it will be the usual, with more cold to come before summer proper. The long range forecast is not for a good summer this year.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a perfect weekend, although a bit chilly early this morning (Sunday)when we were cycling. If only it could stay like this for the summer.
DeleteANSWER: Yes. Summer has arrived but being a coy visitor she may just easily disappear. I was in Lincolnshire yesterday - just north of Louth. A beautiful, diamond day.
ReplyDeleteI love summer, it's my favourite day of the year. I have yet to go to Louth, it's on my list of places to visit.
