The garden has suffered immensely this year after a long period of dry, cold and frosty weather. Finally things have started to warm up and a few rainy days have prompted the plants to unfurl their leaves and start growing.
I have transferred some ivy leaf toadflax into my Ali Baba pot, I'm hoping it will thrive and spill out over the sides |

Paul has pruned the damage from the roses and we have had to cut the hydrangea bush right back. The hydrangea always starts to grow so early in the season and its new leaves were badly burnt and blackened by the constant frost. Everything in the garden is about a month behind but most plants are quite resilient and have survived the harsh spring.

Kat is due home tomorrow after her three month overseas deployment. Her re-vamped bedroom is all ready for her. Rick will go bonkers when she walks in and he won’t leave her side for a minute while she is here. At least I will finally get to watch the Great British Sewing Bee!
Will someone please throw my tennis ball? |
One of the most touching things is the joy of a dog when someone he loves comes home after a long time. Sometimes I'm sorry I no longer have a dog here.
ReplyDeleteThey never forget anyone. Rick is going to be so excited.
DeleteOscar is like that with his ball - he just sits and looks at it mournfully, waiting for someone to throw it. He almost never barks though.
ReplyDeleteIf Rick thinks he has waited too long he will give a single bark, just to remind us that he's still there!
DeleteDo your nasturtiums come up every year? I have yet to plant mine but have got the bed prepared.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first year we have grown them, primarily as an aphid trap. I think you can eat them too on salads.
DeleteHydrangeas have really suffered round here.
ReplyDeleteI think the leaves will recover but I'm not sure if we will get any flower heads this year.
DeleteMy bearded iris have suffered due to unusual spring weather. Slowly they are show a few buds but it does seem that only half as many flowers will emerge this season. Kat will get a royal greeting from Rick as well as enjoy her fantastic, custom bedroom suite. Luck girl.
ReplyDeleteKat should arrive home late afternoon. We are all very excited.
DeleteThe weather has been foul here recently, and is forecast to continue. All the Fig trees were nipped by the frost, and are refusing to regrow; I think they need sun. The grass is growing, and I can't mow because everywhere is too wet. We should be opening the pool in two weeks, which doesn't seem likely.
ReplyDeleteI can remember quite a few cold and damp Springs when we were tempted to jump in the car and drive down to Spain. We never did!
DeleteReally weird weather here too, although we haven't had any frost - +3º was the coldest it dropped to. Yesterday was a typical warm, sunny, early summer day (37º in the sun at 10am!) but this morning it's blowing a gale, the wind is cold and it looks like rain on the horizon. All the plants have decided to grow like crazy and it's hard to keep them under control. The honeysuckle on the terrace is covered with a mass of flowers and smells divine.
ReplyDeleteFickle weather, although it was blowing a gale the one time we visited Calpe about four years ago. It will be some weeks before our honeysuckle is in flower.
DeleteIt will be lovely for you to have Kat home. I am sure she will love her bedroom make over.
ReplyDeleteShe is currently asleep on the sofa - jetlag!
DeleteDid you remember to hang some Airfix aircraft from Kat's bedroom ceiling on pieces of fishing line? It will be lovely so see her again. In "The Time of Coronavirus" being with family seems more important than ever.
