September

Hurricane Florence is heading towards the south east coast of the USA, winter arrives in Yorkshire as Weaver huddles under a blanket but here in south west France it is a beautiful, warm sunny day.  September can be a perfect month in this part of France.

The grapes hang dark and heavy in Philippe’s vineyard, ready for the vendange in a few days’ time.  Our pampas grass is looking lush and feathery, gently moving in the breeze.  It’s a bit of a beast really and we shall not miss having to fight its sharp blades of grass during its springtime cut back.  We had a leisurely lunch on the terrace today and it’s moments like this that I shall miss in the future.  In the meantime I shall savour every last sunny day we have here.

  2. Beautiful weather in Italy too, better than we had in August. Enjoy the last summer in your house.

    1. You have the best of both worlds Jenny, Italy and Yorkshire.

  3. Beautiful weather in Norfolk. Market Rasen about the same, just a shade cooler. Winter is by no means here yet. 15 degrees in February would be decidedly warm. Anyway, nothing forcing you to stay in Lincs, you can always move on if it is all a mistake.

    1. Right now I can't bear the thought of ever moving again! Actually, I enjoy cool weather.

  4. Do I take it you are moving to the Lincolnshire Wolds? If so you are moving to Tennyson country - can't be bad.

    1. Just on the edge Pat, quite close to Market Rasen. We were quite taken with the countryside during our brief trip there back in July.

  5. We had a beautiful pampas grass at our previous property but someone suggested that we set fire to it in the spring. It would quickly flared up and burnt right down to a black mound, and then would regrow again in the usual way.

    1. We thought about doing this but we have a telephone line above the grass so thought it would be too risky!

  6. We even swam yesterday (the water was 24 C). It's forecast to be 30 C again today, so we may swim again. Looking at the Meteo, there's seems very good weather ahead for a week or so.

    1. I doubt we shall be lighting the woodburner before we leave. Storms maybe later today?

    1. We have beautiful views in all directions here as the house is on top of a hill. The cloth is a cheap, cotton one I bought from Woolworths years ago. It's staying!
