Almost Time To Say Goodbye

Every time I hear Katherine Jenkins warbling her Time To Say Goodbye I have to switch the music off (I don't mind so much when Andrea Bocelli sings it).   It just reminds me of all the sad farewells in my life.

Sarah returns to Australia on Thursday.  It will be an unbearably sad day for Paul and me.  Kat will be hit hard too, they have spent a lot of time together this Christmas.  They don’t know when they will see each other again. Kat is due to be posted to Cyprus in March.

The weather is reflecting my mood today.  Cold, gray with an insidious dampness.  There’s not even a hard frost that allows Rick to romp around the muddy fields, instead he stays on his leash and we keep to the pavements.  Sarah has gone to doggy school with him and Paul today.  I’m at home doing some household chores and listening to Vivaldi.  It helps to stay busy.

if I could turn back time

  1. "You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth" it's giving freedom to our children. How it should be. But still, I feel your sadness Sue. X

    1. I think one of my arrows went too far though!

  2. The flat will do for another year then. Kat in Cyprus, you in France and Sarah in Oz. Why complicate your life. The girls will be at the end of Skype and you will be out on your bikes again before you know it.

    1. We will have our summer in France but we need a house and garden for Rick in the UK. I've always been quite good at complicating my life! Time for a change.

  3. That's life I suppose. We have all been there. I am lucky in so far that my son has returned and now lives and works close to where I live. But as Rachel rightly says - they will be at the end of Skype.

    1. I doubt Sarah will ever return to the UK so we will always be on opposite sides of the world.

  5. I feel your pain Sue. How busy life was when our children were young. They filled the house with life and laughter. Pounding up the stairs. Painting their pictures. Their friends round all the time. It now seems part of somebody else's life but I would give a king's ransom to experience just one more of those happy days of yore.

    1. They were always there, filling our lives with chaos, our world revolved around them and then suddenly they were gone. It's sad.

  6. About time you headed south. Quite pleasant here; cool but sunny today.

  7. Perhaps you will get the chance to meet up in Cyprus and if Rick could go he could learn a little Greek . Though I do know what you mean about turning back time.

  8. You will all have wonderful memories of this Christmas spent together, and the world is such a small place these days. Rick will be even more devastated than you and Paul. Lots of hugs all round.

  9. My heart breaks a little bit more each time we put our daughter on the plane for her home in Japan.

  10. I know how you feel. Neither of my kids lives here. Given one is an hour and a half away by car and the other about three hours travelling to his home in Sydney but the distance (especially to Sydney ) means short visits which are not very satisfactory especially when a new grandchild is involved. Technology only helps if you have a chatty child. My son is the quiet type so it is a battle to have a window into his life.
Your girls seem close which is lovely and technology will keep them in touch because they want to.(and you too).

  12. It is tough, but you have independent daughters and that is what we all want for our children.
