New Gates



The garden is finally secure!  Paul has worked like a Trojan during the past week – building pillars, building picket gates and putting posts into the hard ground.  Today he finally hung the metal gates and apart from some final adjustments and tops for the pillars the job is complete.  Rick will be safe!



Installing the metal gates has not been easy, the fixings were a total nightmare.  Just as Paul thought he’d fixed everything he discovered the lock fitting was welded the wrong way round. 

All I have to worry about is what colour to paint the gates.  Black or grey?  What do you think?

    Definitely black, it's the Hammerite 'colour'.

    Browm with gold tips and curly decorative flowers to blend gate with house. Definitely not grey. Will Rick jump the fence do you think?

      I hope he won't, it's 1.2 metres high and he is quite a small dog.

    Can't you paint a ruddy great union jack on those gates? Then tell the local mayor you have declared independence. After all, "Brexit means Brexit" as someone once uttered. I can't remember who that was.

    I rather like them as they are but I suppose they need painting to stop them going rusty.

      Yes, they definitely need a coat of paint. Not sure when I will get round to it though.

    Yes, I quite like them as they are - they look very impressive. Well done Paul, you've done a brilliant job - are you taking commissions?
    I do hope Rick isn't a digger, like out first pup - he dug some spectacular holes in the lawn, in practise for digging out under the wooden fence....

    I love gates and fences. I think black would be the most classic way to go. That looks like such a beautiful property. -Jenn

    Just a practical note: Do they have a verticle bolt on one side to secure to the ground? We have found that these can seize up in the heat and with extra, extra paint to be very difficult to open. Today is Rick Day. Hooray!!

      No vertical bolts, just some of screw thingy at the bottom which fits into a metal hole.

    Silver is the best colour of all for gates for then they glow in the moonlight.
