Chateau Bonaguil |
Yesterday we played truant.
We had planned a ride to Chateau Bonaguil but after breakfast I just
couldn’t find the enthusiasm to venture out so we stayed at home and messed
around in the garden instead. Stupid but
I actually felt guilty that we had missed a ride.
Today the energy was back and we set off on our bicycles for
Bonaguil. A delightful ride passing
through fields of sunflowers and maize.
I asked Paul to stop and pose for a photo but he declined. When my daughters were young I would cajole
them to stand in the middle of sunflower fields so that I could take
photographs. They hated me for it.

We haven’t had any substantial rain for several weeks now so the farmers have got their sprinklers switched on to irrigate the maize. Actually they’re not sprinklers but more like water cannons, covering a vast area. One of these cannons was shooting water right across the road so we received an unexpected shower. The sun was shining so we soon dried out.

We stopped in Bonaguil for a drink and a brief rest. A few tourists were wandering around, some
clearly unhappy that all the cafes were closed.
Nothing opens until after 10.00 a.m.
We didn't hang around, back on our bikes for coffee and cake at home.
A fairytale chateau. Lovely pic of your two girls - how different is the quality of the photos in those days. Love the rainbow caused by the sun on the water. We haven't had much rain this summer either - I could do with one of those sprayers for my garden :)
ReplyDeleteThey really didn't want to pose for me!
DeleteNo rain on the horizon. Lawns have all turned beige, we'll probably have a hosepipe ban before long.
ReplyDeleteAt least the grass has stopped growing.
DeleteI love your girls in the sunflower! Sunflowers seem to play an important part in your family; a very pretty, happy and positive flower.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
Sunflowers and freesias are my favourite flowers, sunflowers because they make me smile and freesias for their scent.
DeleteI would get that truant feeling often.
ReplyDeleteMostly it's a good feeling, sometimes I feel a bit guilty if I'm being lazy.
