Changing Rooms

The work to the sitting room is just about complete (Paul is still working on the skirting board and boxing in ugly heating pipes).  Some of you will perhaps prefer the original version of the room but the old gas fire needed updating and the deep pile cream carpet was stained and really not at all dog friendly.

The fire has been replaced with a sleek modern version that I can easily turn on with a remote control – a log fire at the touch of a button!  No more dusty coals or wind howling down the chimney.

Paul did a fabulous job laying the wood flooring and we resurrected the Persian rug that had been dumped in the attic since we arrived here three years ago.  I’m happy to see it again and I think it looks good against the timber floor.

Jeremiah has found a home on the top of my new shelf unit; I have also bought a salt lamp that gives out a cosy glow in the evenings.

There are still some finishing touches to make and I am also on the lookout for some new artwork to hang.  The room has taken on a very different aspect and I am very pleased with the result.

  1. I think it looks beautiful. Love the colour of the rug and furniture and I am a fan of wood floors as this what we have.

    1. The wood floor is going to be a lot easier to keep clean than the cream carpet.

  2. It is always nice to put one's own stamp on the room isn't it.

  4. Your gas fireplace looks amazing and with the flick of a switch you have fire and warmth. The black and white is very contemporary and it looks striking in your new room. The oriental rug with the new wood floor framing is also perfect. Selecting additional art for your newly updated decor will be great fun.

  5. That looks fantastic - I like the rug very much - a nice contrast between the traditional and the modern. -Jenn

  8. I'm going to miss my dirty, dusty, wood fire this winter. We don't even have a fireplace (real or otherwise) in Brighton.

  9. I think that removal of a hearth that claims such a large area infront of a 'real' fire is a further reason to lose the log burner. Some of us have small rooms to start with. I can't do it yet as the flooring is too new to replace or patch. Yours looks very smart.

    1. I did like the old fire surround so it was quite a difficult decision to make.
