I always enjoy a house or garden project so now that the utility room is finished we are on to the next items on the list. The first item is a garden project. When I sit on my nice Lutyens style bench this is what I look at..
Paul is a very keen compost maker and quite often has three separate compost pens on the go. Combined with wheelbarrows and garden refuse bins it’s not a pretty sight; the dark Leylandii looming in the background is also quite dreary. Rick likes to ferret around the back of the lilac tree so this is temporarily blocked off with pallets. Our solution is to screen the whole area off using some willow or hazel hurdles with a gateway and metal arch to add depth and give the illusion of a garden beyond. We could then grow some honeysuckle and roses over the archway and maybe add some bamboo and ornamental grasses in front of the hurdles. That should keep Paul busy for a while.
Daughter Kat is currently on a three month posting to Cyprus. While she is away we are taking the opportunity to re-decorate her bedroom. The wallpaper needs to be stripped away and I want the walls painted a shade of white so that I have a blank canvas. Today I ordered some fabric to make curtains (I flinched at the cost of made to measure and a six week wait). I may regret this decision when I start fighting to pattern-match the fabric.
Both the garden project and the bedroom project are set to keep you both busy for a while.
ReplyDeleteKeeping busy is good for us right now.
DeleteGood to have projects to plan and execute. I will be watching to see the finished results which, I'm sure, will be impressive.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made curtains for years so I'm a bit nervous as to how well they will turn out.
DeleteThere's no way that I will encourage my missus to read your blog Sue. It would give her ideas. You always seem to have some project or other going on.
ReplyDeletePaul isn't happy if he doesn't have something to do. My task is to dream up these wonderful projects to keep him in a blissful state.
DeleteGarden views are important and I love your screening ideas. (I hid my compost too.) An arch with roses and a gate will be lovely. Your curtain fabric has a beautiful pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping the fabric will actually arrive as it's a discontinued line.
DeleteI have just two compost bays, one for this year, the other for next. They never look very appealing.
ReplyDeleteAn essential part of the garden but they don't always look wonderful.
DeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the finished projects - both garden and house.
ReplyDeleteThe metal archway has just been delivered but it's too wet and stormy outside to play with it today.
DeleteMay I borrow Paul to get some projects done here please:)
ReplyDeleteYou know what he's like! Can't sit still.
DeleteBrave with the curtains. I haven't made any curtains for decades. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm going to need it! A moment of madness.
