November

After some early rain this morning the skies cleared so I ventured outside and pottered around the garden for a while.  Rick said he would accompany me as long as I agreed to throw his tennis ball umpteen times.  Tonight we are forecast frost so I decided to cut the few remaining rosebuds and a few sprigs of honeysuckle to bring indoors.  They make a rather straggly but pretty display.

The strawberry bed is still producing fruit but none of it is ripening at this time of year, except for one single strawberry.  Paul and I shall fight over it later.

Paul had a special delivery earlier, two cubic metres of organic compost.  I have never before seen anyone get so excited by a heap of muck.  Unloading it from the lorry was effortless, transferring it by wheelbarrow to the vegetable garden will not be quite so easy.

Two more days and we are going into lockdown once more.  No dancing for me this week.

  1. All lads like shovelling muck - just like the editor of "The Daily Mail". Next year Paul is going to grow some champion vegetables.

  2. That is a lot of compost to spread. On the upside, no gym memberships will be required and your garden will be fantastic.

    1. Unfortunately we only have one wheelbarrow so I can't help him!

  3. How does one train a dog NOT to chase Tennis balls? I seem to spend hours throwing them for Billy; it's about time he grew out of it. I wish someone would deliver a load of muck here.

    1. Rick is making up for lost time, I don't think he had ever played with a ball before we got him.

  5. Strange how so many dogs love tennis balls! Our first dog, Sultan, would chase them for hours, bring them back, drop them at my feet then immediately run off in the hope that the ball would overtake him. He had the most wonderful "eye" and would catch them on the run or in mid-air! On walks he always managed to find them too - together with (sometimes) stray golf balls, when we walked across the golf course!

    1. I play '2 ball' with Rick. He will only drop the ball at my feet if I have another one ready to throw. Works brilliantly.

    2. If I could find where she's hidden all her other tennis balls, I'll try that with Inca!

  6. I love that Rick needs to see you prepared to throw a ball before he'll give you the first one. He seems to have gotten you well trained using positive reinforcement.
