carrot lovers |
I made a tarte tatin today using apples from the garden. Unfortunately the caramelised topping was too toffee like and the apples stuck firmly to the pan, refusing to budge. It ended up as a total mess but still tasted good. I don’t know why that happened unless perhaps the apples weren’t juicy enough.
Definitely an entry for a veggie comp if there was one. Lovers, toes curling, hugging, whispering in the ear, it's got the lot.
ReplyDeleteThey definitely looked like lovers.
DeleteJohn (going gently) used to have a veggie comp every year and yours this year is up there with the best. As to that tarte tatin - draw a veil over it I say.
ReplyDeleteI used to enter his competition but never won a prize!
DeleteDoesn't matter about the Tarte Tatin being a disaster, as long as it tasted good! Those carrots are hilarious - I wonder if your garden will produce other vegetables that are unusual shapes.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will, unlike supermarket produce.
DeleteUse Bramleys, they have enough moisture in them to keep the caramelly bottom moist. And turn out as soon as it's cooked. Otherwise, damn the look of it, it's the taste that counts.
ReplyDeleteThere definitely wasn't enough juice from the apples and I left it to cool as per recipe.
DeletePerhaps it happened because you were dancing around your fancy new kitchen instead of concentrating on baking the tart. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteP.S. The carrots were called Harry and Meghan...but you ate them!
The tart should have been perfect. I blame that Raymond Blanc fellow, it was his recipe.
DeleteI love those carrots. We entered the competition for our allotment produce this year. We share our plot with two friends and it was our first year. We won three prizes, fattest carrot, heaviest marrow and largest sunflower head. Our marrow was similar to the one Kat picked in your last post. It was a courgette that had got too big to eat and we decided to leave it to see how big it would get. I was amused that Kat picked the marrow because the three of us were all trying to palm it off on each other! Didn't get round to commenting yesterday so two in one today. Your carrots would have won a prize in our competition for sure.
ReplyDeleteI think I shall pickle that marrow and post it out to her in Cyprus.
DeleteI remember when Esther Ranzen had an awful programme on TV can't remember the name ,fortunately, which involved people sending in pictures of vegetables in 'compromising positions', yours would have won first prize!
ReplyDeleteI felt quite sad when I pulled them apart.
DeleteLove the carrots. Looks Like fingers crossed for the tarte tatin!:)
ReplyDeleteIt didn't work!
