Build Day 6

Day six and the new floor is down.  The grout is still wet so we can't walk on it until tomorrow.  The joiner is scheduled to be with us on Monday to install the new kitchen units.  It all seems to be progressing incredibly quickly.

The stormy weather has kept us indoors and even Rick doesn't like being outside in these extraordinary windy conditions.  We have a row of poplar trees at the side of the garden and they cause the wind to sound like an express train coming through.  It's unsettling, I hope it stops soon.

  1. Will the limestone floor tiles be sealed to avoid staining? Perhaps they are fabricated slabs. Anyway, they are going to look really nice. Rick has made a good choice there.

    1. That's why we picked porcelain lookalike tiles, no worries about stains!

  2. The tiles look lovely, but my first thoughts are exactly the same as Yorkshire Pudding's, Sue. If they are natural limestone will they need to be sealed?
We have non-slip tile flooring outdoors, with a similar finish to yours, and it's the very devil to keep clean, without resorting to the pressure washer.

    1. Porcelain. My steam mop will keep them clean.

  3. I have no clue about sealing limestone, but I like the look of the tiles! Strong wind can be very unsettling. -Jenn

    1. Natural limestone is beautiful but needs periodic sealing to protect it from seals. We cheated and chose porcelain.

  5. Porcelain is wonderful to keep clean especially with the steam mop & I love mine but give a thought to every dish, bowl & glass/ceramic object you own. Mine are mostly broken from hitting the floor when my arthritic hands don't work properly. I'm always sweeping up the shattered remains of something! And invest in thick sponge soled shoes because your feet will complain if you have to stand on those tiles for too long.

    1. Our terracotta floor in France was unforgiving too.

    1. Lino is very retro and popular with the hipsters I believe. My childhood home had lino everywhere with the odd rug scattered about. Great for sliding around on.

    2. Even in the bedrooms, never fitted properly and curled up and brittle at the edges.

  7. Love the limestone flooring.
I'm sure your kitchen will be worth it but whilst it's happening, it's rather stressful. At least, that was my experience!
