Twit-Twoo

I failed miserably to find a favourite corner in our new home to enter John Gray’s competition.  The entries were fascinating – so many characterful, eclectic, enticing and colourful corners from around the world.  I could find nothing here to really compete.  I think the reason must be due to the fact our home is new, bland and still evolving.  I left all my clutter and books and stuff that had been collected over the years behind in France.  I wanted to start with a clean slate and create something new but it is really hard to recreate character, I guess it will come in time.

The atrium style hallway in the centre of the bungalow is still not quite right.  I love my new mirror and console table but the two tall buddhas make it look like an alter waiting for some sacrificial offering. I was very tempted by a tasteful horse head statue yesterday when I was out shopping but everyone is doing horse heads right now so I wanted something different.  This is what I bought.

The light shining behind his wings is effective and I think he looks suitably irreverent.  (Paul said something like "Oh gawd!")

  2. John's blog made me feel so bad even though I loved the idea, I would never have a house and corners so beautiful as I saw there, I sent a picture of two cats on red chairs at the entrance to my house, and when I enlarged the picture I saw some dust at the entrance to the house .Your's corners looks beautiful to me.

  3. Love the owl - much better than a horse head.
Your house in France was beautiful, and you made the very best of the wonderful character that it had. Not so easy to do with the square modern box that is the average British house.
Looking round my home, I can't see any favourite corners, and am not sure if I've ever had any!

    1. It was so much easier with our French house, it all came naturally.

  4. You have your style and you had it in France too. I think you are looking for too much, the bungalow is not a traditional French house, it is what it is, a bungalow, and you are tidy. Tidy in a traditional French house looks different to tidy in a British 80s bungalow.

    1. Tidy in a British 80s bungalow - yikes, that sounds so grim!

  5. As long as you use items you find pleasing, you will love it. And that's all that's important. Of course, you might add one or two items that Paul likes, too!

  6. I very nearly didn't send a photo as I felt that I didn't really have a favourite corner although I love our Edwardian house. In the end I sent the antique pine cabinet with my old bottle collection. Your home will evolve. Love the owl.

  7. I sent in a photo of my much loved desk given to me by a dear friend who passed away 2 years ago. I live in a new house, don't have a lot of space but my desk has pride of place. Not a cosy corner I know, but its my favourite place to sit.

    1. How lovely to have a piece of furniture like that, it must bring back happy memories for you.

  8. I like him Sue. I did a similar thing when, widowed, I moved into this bungalow. I downsized from a large farm house and I have reduced my possessions to the bare minimum. The only things I buy, house wise are books - so the only purchases of course are bookcases.

    1. In a way it was good to offload some of my possessions but there are a few things that I really miss.

    1. Yes, looks like the crime scene was very close to where we once lived.

  10. We've just moved too! And yes, we cleaned out many things in the move, but I have too many pieces of wall art. Once everything is hanged, whatever is left over will be donated. And yes, I'm back to blogging, but at my old blogger site, https://agentlebreeeze.blogspot.com/
