The morning was beautifully warm and sunny but this afternoon the heat is quite oppressive. Paul is mowing the grass; I went out earlier and strimmed my rockery. It’s looking very colourful at the moment with orange Californian poppies. I try and cull them ever year but they keep coming back!
Philippe has put his faithful scarecrow up in his potager. It’s not exactly a work of art but it seems to do the trick.

We had lunch outside on the terrace, salad with home grown lettuce and beetroot, followed by more strawberries. All very healthy. Big Greenie (European Green Lizard) and slightly Smaller Greenie put in an appearance. Big Greenie was clearly feeling frisky and chasing Smaller Greenie. It’s always a delight to see these shy lizards, they have the most amazing iridescent turquoise colouring. Needless to say he didn't stay long enough for me to take a photo.
Rain and storms forecast for tomorrow so I’m making the most of the sunshine today. I think a cold martini will cool me down.

I like the scarecrow, did not see one here for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThis one appears every Spring.
DeleteIs Philippe a disciple of Salvador Dali? The scarecrow looks very avant garde. It probably belongs in an art gallery rather than a vegetable plot.
ReplyDeleteI wish he'd invest in some new clothes.
DeleteWhat? I thought Frenchmen were chic and stylish like Emmanuel Macron. I wonder when his new summer range will be out.
DeleteI was rather hoping for a big 'son et lumiere' show, but it didn't happen. Promises, promises!
ReplyDeletePaul was disappointed too. The sky did go very, very dark.
DeleteIt topped up our water butt last night
