I'm Off To Sunny Spain

We don’t actually leave for another three weeks but I found myself singing “Oh, this year I'm off to sunny Spain Y Viva españa...” at the top of my voice in the shower this morning.  My musical ability is atrocious so I only ever sing in the shower or in the car when I’m alone.  The last time I was forced to partake in a karaoke session people covered their ears and looked at their feet in embarrassment. Yes, I’m looking forward to the trip.  I’m hoping it will be more refined than my 1977 trip to Benidorm (that was the year Elvis died).

Next weekend Paul is taking me to Birmingham!  There is a show on at the National Exhibition Centre (something to do with camper vans!) and then we are driving over to the RAF Museum at Cosford.  I have been trying to convince Paul and daughter Kat (unsuccessfully) that I should visit Cadbury World while they check out the airplanes.

There’s no real chance of me becoming a cultured person is there?

A cultured person can be someone who is an eclectic reader, who watches well-written classic films, and who has a refined appreciation for art. Also, to be cultured is to be educated about the world and its languages, to understand world politics, and to be well-read in world history.

  2. Putting one's hand up to the mouth when coughing or yawning even when alone. Do you get to taste at Cadbury World, you wont get to fly at Cosford.

  3. Ugh' Cadbury's chocolate is total rubbish compared to the stuff that I ate as a boy.

    1. It's not as good as it used to be, and the bars are getting smaller, but I still adore Cadbury's milk chocolate. Some other chocolate is too rich for me. As a matter of interest, Australian Cadbury tastes nothing like British Cadbury.

    2. I've heard that Sue. I will need to investigate it. It might be something extra added to stop it melting in the heat.

    3. We used to take loads over in our suitcases for my daughter before she went vegan.

  4. Cadbury World?!? Are you saying your family doesn't want to go there??? You would be no doubt, finding out about the history of the company. That's cultural! You would likely be involved in a tasting. Also a cultural activity. -Jenn

    1. My family doesn't really like chocolate. I used to get to eat all their Easter Eggs when the girls were young.

  5. I'm not a chocolate fan, and don't like Cadbury's - it's far too sweet.
Years ago they gave gift assortment boxes after the tour, and then "abandoned" you in the shop, where you could buy mis-shapes at low prices....
When people started on the production lines, they were allowed to eat as many chocolates as they liked. Imagine ! Most of them said they couldn't face the thought after a few days.

  7. Cosford is wonderful. Personally I would try to double it with a visit to The Melton Mowbray Pie Experience; but I'm pretty un-cultured too.

    1. Ooh, pork pies! I'll be lucky if I get half a sandwich and a cup of coffee at Cosford.

  8. Does a cultured pearl have the same characteristics as a cultured person? Mouth open to the seawater as a little bit of agitated grit gradually turns into something beautiful. I would prefer Cadbury World as I have very little interest in military things.
