Cold February

There’s not much to write about in February; I tend to hibernate when it’s cold and grey outside.  Earlier in the week I celebrated my birthday by staying at home and drinking Prosecco and eating garlic prawns instead of joining the coffee morning group at the village hall.  That says a lot about me I suppose.

I ventured out yesterday for my weekly dance session.  I have just about mastered the Bossa Nova but I'm not too sure about the new Night Fever routine they want to introduce.  We don't take this dancing too seriously though and we have a lot of laughs.

It’s a bitterly cold day, I think the wind must be coming from the north east.  I literally marched Rick around the village early this morning, not wanting to pause and get cold.

When I got home I immediately set about cleaning the oven.  It’s a job I have been putting off for months because I hate doing it.  I use a sodium hydroxide cleaner that is fearfully corrosive but cleans like magic and means I don’t have to spend ages scrubbing with a brillo pad.  I was very safety conscious and togged up with double rubber gloves and glasses to protect my eyes.

The result is very pleasing.  A clean and shiny oven. I might just do a quick Bossa Nova around the kitchen!

  1. Nothing like a clean oven to but a spring in your step and make you swear off baking for a while.

    1. Yes, it would be a shame to make it messy again.

  2. The cold weather is getting very old about now. Isn't it funny how our dogs run to the door when it's time for "walkies." Rick loves his walk in any weather. Your oven looks brand new.

    1. Rick is a dog of routine, he knows exactly when it is time for walkies.

  3. Rick sure is good looking dog! And your sparkling oven looks great. I'm envious!

  4. When an oven REALLY needs cleaning, it's time to buy a new one!

    1. Haha. Or maybe when it starts to fill the kitchen with smoke.

  5. My oven was here when I moved in. It wasn't clean then and still isn't. I wouldn't know where to begin.

    1. I only do this about once a year. They tend to smoke a bit at high temperature if the grease builds up. Otherwise I probably wouldn't bother.

  6. You did such a good job of cleaning your oven you should consider setting up an oven cleaning business. You'd have your own little van and you would tootle around mid-Lincolnshire making other ovens gleam - bringing joy where ever you went.

  7. Miserable weather here too, yesterday. So just a couple of quick dog walks around the immediate neighbourhood. Now we're into Processionary Caterpillar season, we'll go down to the beach and walk along by the sea. No pine trees along the prom., so less likelihood of Inca, or me, being stung.
Your oven looks brand new - worth all that effort. I so rarely use the oven or grill that I haven't cleaned it properly for ages - just the occasional wipe down. It's mostly used to store pans.

    1. Those caterpillars are seriously scary, we used to see them a lot when we were out cycling in France.

    2. They are. One of our dogs (Duke, the one Rick reminds me of) was bitten and we had to rush him to the emergency vet on a Sunday evening. Fortunately no lasting harm (apart from the bank balance!) but the vet had already had dozens of dogs to treat and not all of them survived. He told us that it was mostly young dogs who were attacked - being more inquisitive they would go up too close.

  8. It's a long time since we've heard from you, Sue. Is everything OK?
