Saturday

Sarah was sadly unable to join us for Christmas from Australia but she generously gifted us a very extravagant hamper.  I hold her fully responsible for the 2 kilograms I have gained over the holiday period.

The brandy butter was delicious with the Christmas pudding but we still had half a jar left over.  This morning I decided to make some oat biscuits using the brandy butter.  They were very good although I think they would have been nicer with a chocolate topping!

My wrist is slowly improving after my fall although it’s not strong enough yet for me to take Rick out.  It is another frosty morning here in Lincolnshire but with blue skies and sunshine, much nicer than yesterday’s freezing fog.

Life is a bit dull at the moment in lockdown but I am thankful that Paul and I are both reasonably fit and healthy right now.  I doubt that we will be summoned for our vaccination jabs before the middle of March so we will be patient.  Spring is not too far away and it is reassuring to see the first snowdrops peeking through.

We have more building work (windows and utility room) scheduled for February so I think I’ll just try and enjoy the peace and quiet while I can.

  1. Snow here all day yesterday non stop but today wall to wall sunshine. The world seems to have almost ground to a halt doesn't it (unless one lives in the US)

    1. No snow here yet but sounds like there may be some forecast for next week. I dare not take Rick out on icy ground until my wrist is strong again.

  2. Truly decadent biscuits and so much better than wasting the brandy butter.
(I have now stolen your idea for future use.)

  3. Oh, Brandy butter, sounds like something I could go for! Take care of your wrist and fingers crossed you will get the jab soon. I'm expecting mine by April.

  4. Why don't you take up macrame? You could make Paul a string cycling vest for the summertime.

  5. Sarah chose a very nice Christmas hamper for you. I've never had brandy butter but it sounds good. Your oat biscuits look delicious and must be very nice with a cup of tea...especially on a cold winter day. Rick will miss walking with you. Best not to take any risks and to ensure your wrist heals fully.

    1. I shall wait until the icy weather has passed before I take Rick for his early morning walk.

  6. Our children have started sending Christmas hampers (food parcels) too. I now eagerly await Fortnum's horse-drawn carriage with real excitement.

    1. It was such a treat. We felt very spoilt.

  7. The shipping charges must have been enormous! I was sent Fat Rascles from Betty's. People have been very kind with treats that really cheer one up.

    1. She ordered and had it sent locally from Lincoln! No kangeroo trotters in this one.

  8. What a lovely gift from Sarah - sampling each "goody" will prolong your festive celebrations.
The weather here is unbelievably dire, and this is the start of the fourth day of continuous rain, with more forecast. It was 8º but dry earlier, so I quickly donned my arctic gear to take Inca out on our first walk for three days. She was so excited and couldn't decide which of her new fluffy toys to bring with her. By the time she'd chosen one and we'd stepped through the door, the rain was pelting down. A hasty retreat and we're about to cuddle up on the sofa again!
At least we haven't yet had the snowfall that much of northern Spain has had, so something to be thankful for.

    1. The pictures from Madrid looked very bad with all that snow. I hope your rain stops soon, strange to think of Spain without the sunshine. Has Inca got a raincoat?

    2. No, Inca hasn't got one - she hasn't really needed one. We don't go out if it's raining - I had enough of having to go out whatever the weather when I walked the dogs in the UK. I vowed I wouldn't go out if it rained here. Usually it doesn't last long - this is exceptional, and the snow is the worst in over 50 years.
