I'd do anything to lose weight...

... except eat less and exercise!

Seriously I really need to shift some weight.  I didn’t eat that many mince pies over Christmas but somehow I have managed to gain two kilograms.  It’s too cold to cycle but I do take Rick out for a walk every day.  Paul and I also spend an hour dancing most mornings, it’s a bit of a giggle and some of the more energetic routines like Jerusalema are excellent cardio workouts.  I don’t exercise unless it’s fun.

However, this activity alone will not reduce my weight.  I really should eat less but, right now, we look forward to meal times, they are the highlight of our day.  At this time of year it’s more about soups at lunch time rather than salads, although poached egg and chorizo on salad is still on the menu.  Today Paul has made a celeriac and apple soup, not one that we have tried before.   Tonight I am roasting some cod fillets and I shall try and resist the temptation to serve it with a creamy sauce.  Can’t resist the roast potatoes though!

Dare I have a biscuit with my afternoon cuppa?

  1. I can't top the comment above, but I will say that I,too, love homemade soup, but particularly when that soup is accompanied by good bread. Dangerous.

    1. Paul made a wholemeal loaf today - makes me feel a bit less guilty about eating it.

  3. Welcome to the club Sue!
Even though I walk Inca twice a day, I've still managed to put on a few pounds. I think lockdown, followed by a cold winter, has been the downfall of many of us. Doesn't help you that Paul is such a good cook and homemade soup and bread are so tempting. Enjoy it now, and start the diet in the Spring!

    1. The Hairy Bikers did an interesting Celeriac and apple soup a while ago - I have put celeriac on my order from Tesco this week end so that I can try it. Losing weight? If you find a way other than by eating less please let me know. I ordered crumpets yesterday and had three for my tea and the other three for breakfast this morning so no weight lost this week.

    2. Ooh, crumpets! That's just wicked.

  4. Despite having a house guest for the last four months and cooking a big dinner every night, I haven't put on any weight this winter. I think my secret is to have a very minimal breakfast and lunch, mostly fruit and veg and no carbs. Bread is a killer isn't it?

    1. I can't resist newly baked bread if it's put in front of me. You've done well not to gain weight during the winter.

  5. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Consequently, I have nothing to say about losing weight. I am little more than a space hopper with internal organs.

    1. It's all that walking you do, you've worn your legs down!

  6. I read last year that the average person has gained 16 pounds since the beginning of the plague, so you're looking good! Have you thought about ordering one of those mini trampoline things and jumping up and down on it for a bit? It'd be like being a kid again.

    1. Now there's an idea. I've always wanted a go on one of those.

  7. Like you, I want to eat normally, walk with my dog and do projects on the property. My son put a gym in one of our rooms: rowing machine, bench press, weights and treadmill. I now have proven to myself...I do not like exercise equipment.

  8. I haven't dare weigh myself... I fear a diet is on the way.

    1. Not weighing yourself is probably the best idea!

  9. I have also put on 2 Kg ! I am still walking the dog much the same amount, but not getting the grand kids from school twice a week ( which involves some extra walking!) hasn't helped. My husband has been doing some of the shopping and he often buys biscuits and cakey things and chocolate that I never did! It would be rude not to eat some wouldn't it?

    1. My husband leads me astray with his bread making. Although he is quite strict with my chocolate rations.
