Admitting Defeat

Sometimes you just have to admit that things are not working out how you’d hoped.  Everything had started off in quite a promising manner but things went downhill after I tried to add bluebells among the trees.  Yes, I’m talking about my masterpiece.  The more I tried to put it right the darker it became.  It resembled a piece of badly painted pantomime scenery.  In the end I threw a hissy fit and asked Paul to dispose of it.  He took it to the local tip.

I am not downhearted.  I’m glad I tried.

feathers or leaves?

On a positive note Paul has recovered from his bad back and has returned to his Duracell bunny mode.  A new project is waiting for him – to transform the narrow, dark hallway into a light and welcoming entrance.

  1. To me the painting looks wonderful, almost three-dimensional, it takes a lot of talent to paint like that.

  2. I agree with Yael. I love the trees, especially. You definitely have talent...please don't give up on painting!

  3. Oh, I love it! The dog/fox is so whimsical and the whole composition looks like the sort of image on a greeting card I gravitate to in the stationery shoppes. You might need to retrieve it from the tip for me, haha!!

    1. I did aim for a touch of whimsy by adding Mr Fox.

  4. Never throw away an old canvas. Paint over it and start again. Even Rembrandt did that!

    1. I don't suppose Rembrandt ever had an adult temper tantrum.

  5. It looks a bit drab for a 'splash of colour'. Go for a Mondrian sharpness next time. Or red trees. You can paint.

    1. I failed on that point spectacularly. That's why I threw it.

    1. Exactly, they were supposed to be leaves!!!

  7. The trees are brilliant. Don't throw out anymore paintings!

  8. Looks good to me too - love the interpretation of the leaves, they show original thinking. "Rick" could do with a few more curls on his coat, but apart from that it was going well.
As Cro says, never throw away a canvas, just paint over it - I have several waiting to be used again !

    1. That shows how bad the painting was! It wasn't supposed to be Rick but Mr Fox (actually a stolen design from my kitchen blind).

    2. Ah well, I wasn't sure, but I still like it - even if it isn't meant to be Rick !

  9. I could do with a Duracell Bunny in my Autumn garden right now. Do you rent him out?

    1. He's asleep on the sofa right now, I think his batteries have run down!

  10. I bet that Leonardo also took several canvases to the tip in Vinci. He would have rocked up in his Land Rover. Please think of the that first canvas as a trial piece and try again. You have got it in you to make a kitchen canvas you will be proud of.

    1. I might stick with watercolours, the brushes are easier to clean.

  11. As talentless as I am, I'd have been proud of a first attempt and it would have been hanging on the wall - until perhaps a second canvas took it's place. Leaves/trees fox yes. No longer dalmation legs.

    1. It would have driven me mad to keep looking at it.
