Garden Seat and Pots

The old garden seat by the apple trees catches the afternoon sun and I like to sit there and daydream for a while. It is almost falling apart and needs patching up but I quite like the mossy patina so am loath to give it a coat of paint.  But this morning I made a cushion for the seat so at least it is clean and comfortable to sit on. I bought a piece of foam that just happened to be the right size and covered it with some summery stripey fabric.  It’s not a tailored piece of upholstery but it does the job.

Yesterday we drove over to the garden centre and spent another small fortune on pots and shrubs for the patio.  We bought another cordyline, a bay (laurel) bush and a purple hebe.  They certainly help to soften the hard landscaping.

  1. Your garden seat is so pretty in its faded blue, I would not paint it. The new cushion is a nice touch. Do you have any fragrant plants on your patio? I love scented plants and they could be a nice addition to "soften" the hardscape, as you mentioned.

    1. I have just bought some jasmine to climb up the trellis and we have honeysuckle, buddeleia and scented roses surrounding the patio.

  2. Love that cordyline - is it frost hardy?

    1. They are frost hardy although I like to wrap them up in severe winter weather so they don't go tatty.

    1. Bloomin' cold here today. It's going to warm up next week though so I'll be able to get the bikini out.

  5. Week by week you are really taking ownership of that bungalow and its grounds. One day soon it will truly feel like yours. By the way, what do you daydream about?

  6. I love your little blue bench in the sun. We're finally supposed to have a warmish day tomorrow, so I may just find myself a spot in the yard to soak up some sun too. Will you take the potted plants in the house next fall or will they stay outside?

    1. I will definitely move the bay into my garden room, and possibly a few others even though they are hardy.

  7. I love the way the soft colours of the cushions compliment the blue of the seat. I also love the pots on the patio. They soften the patio beautifully.
